I read somewhere can't find it now about a cord that would make a charging usb and a Aux jack and the just plug into the bottom of the iphone. I just have the basic prius. It was just one cord that split the aux and usb charging the into the bottom of the phone...any help...thanks!!
I have 2010 Pri II with basic audio. I bought these 2 items and everything works great with my iPhone: $3.43 - 3-in-1 USB 3.5mm AUX Audio/Data/Charger Cable for iPod/iPhone 2G/3G/3GS - Black (1.2M) - Cables & Adaptors $2.36 - 1000mA Car Cigarette Powered USB Adapter/Charger (DC 12V/24V) - Cables & Chargers With this cable, the phone charges while sending out audio at the same time. Volume is controlled through your car stereo, not on the iPhone. Works great with Pandora, etc. Dealextreme has great prices, but shipping can take a couple of weeks. BTW, I have iPhone 3G and 3GS. Have not tried it with iPhone 4. Erik
I just ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003L13BNI USB/Aux cable with dock connector to iPod/iPhone. (You'll need a 12v USB charger as well.)
+1. I think the best bet for the OP is a 12v adapter that converts to 5v USB. All it will do is power/charge your iPod/iPhone/iPad/MP3 player while your car is powered on. I think you can find them for around $5 on eBay.
Thanks for the link to the Aux/USB splitter cable. I just ordered mine also. I don't understand why the audio should sound better with this cable than via the 3.5mm earphone plug, but guess I will find out soon if that's true. BTW, I think this thread belongs in the Audio/Electronics subforum.
Not to plug a company but those searching for iPhone accessories should check out Meritline... Meritline.com Search Results for:iphone > Category:iPhone Charger Their prices are super low the merchandise is quality, if you dont mind shipping from Hong Kong which usually takes 2 weeks for me.
Awesome cable! The sound is so much better, I couldn't believe it! Perfect fit for Prius with Aux In and 12v plug in the center console. Of course, whoever designed the center console for the Gen 2 Prius didn't put in a notch for you to run a cable out when the lid is closed. (Duh!!!) So I just took a knife and carved a small hole to run my cable through. Hopefully Toyota no longer makes this stupid design omission!
This cable is very sturdy and well built. Amazon doesn't show a full pic, so I'm including it here in case anyone else is interested.
