Is it just me or is Toyota trying to confuse us. We have the current 3rd generation Prius V on the market and you have the soon to be released 2012 Prius v which is a completely different car (larger, less gas milage). Why would you have two different cars with the same designation? It seems this will really get confusing. Just like this from is call Prius 2010 and I assume are current models are 2011. Maybe it is time to update it to 2011 model.
Yes, it's a little absurd. They really need to change the name to "Prius wagon" or something more obvious.
That's probably why the sedan we all have come to love isn't called a "Prius V" anymore... it's a "Prius Five". Granted, that's only for the 2011 models.
Yup, I'd guess the 'v' was not names yet or finalized yet when they decided to go with the roman numeral package system. It is what it is though... Now packages are numbered 2,3,4,5 and the Prius v is the Prius v.
Call me old fashioned, but I like cars with names - not numbers or letters. I like Impala, Galaxie, Bonneville, Imperial, and yes --- Prius. I would not like it to answer - "I have a new Toyota XR450LZ". The new Prius models should have their own nomenclature and not simply numerics. I have a 2010 Prius V... or is it Five now. C'mon Toyota how about releasing the new model Prius with an actual name. But you may want to pass on Pacer or Pinto...
That's not quite correct. What was the 2010 Prius V is now the 2011 Prius Five. Prius V = Five (now marketed as Prius Five) Prius v = wagon
I think it is simply a lack of foresight, but I hope whoever decided not to call it the Prius wagon or Prius+ rues the day they made THAT stupid decision, the rest of us will.
I suspect the Prius V/v/five/5 designations will cause confusion when trying to order parts. Why do they do the things they do?
Hey Toyota, your naming convention for the new Prius versions create total confusion in everyone I've talked to. I'm tired of trying to cover your butt on this one.
What's the confusion in terms of pronounciation? How to you pronounce the following? Prius I Prius II Prius III Prius IV Given that, how do you pronounce Prius V? Surely it's "Five." The wagon Prius v (lower case) is simply "vee."
Must every mention of Prius V be preceded by all the other Roman numeraled versions so that it can be properly understood? If Prius I stands by itself, should we pronounce it Prius eye? See the problem?
It's a bit confusing. You'd like to think somewhere in Toyota, people put time, effort and research into chosing the designations and names for vehicles. But then something like this happens and your realize it's just balloons, darts and somebody losing a bet.
Really? Maybe Honda knows how to name their cars, but they sure do NOT know how to sell them. As a 2nd generation Insight owner, I believe one reason it does not sell well here in the US is that they do not advertise it. I have both a Prius and an Insight, and I acknowledge the Prius is the better car. But, the Insight is thousands cheaper, and gets comparable gas mileage (less than Prius but much better than its EPA ratings). If it were properly marketed I believe it would sell better.
Honda's "luxury" line Acura used to give their cars names: Legend, Victor, etc. Then, 1~2 decades back they switched to obscure letter/numeral designations. That was precisely when I lost interest: seemed pretentious and confusing.
The "hybrid for everyone" commercials were a load of rubbish. Subcompact sales in the USA are low so you can't expect a hybrid subcompact to sell well. Right now, it's selling OK given that it's a subcompact with a price premium. 2782 and 2644 in the last two months. But as with other imports from Japan, the inventory is low. Only the overloaded EXs are readily available. At the time I got the Prius I'd have had to get an EX to get C/C, which was ridiculous. Now I'd have to get an LX, which has an MSRP of $20k (although the low rear headroom would still be a stopper). The only Honda commercials I'm seeing right now are for the new Civic.
Not sure, but I think it's "Civic for everyone". Their Civic Hybrid icon still indicates arriving soon, at least at Honda Canada's site. Hey, just checked: at least they're showing the 2012 Hybrid, pictures, spec's. You'll have to excuse me, have to do some reading.
