2011 Prius 3 here. Getting windows tinted in 3 days. I'm undecided what tint to go with. I know 35% is the legal limit. Factory on most SUV's is 18% I believe. I'm thinking of wither 15% or 20%. I'm leaning towards 15% with a 8" or so strip across the windshield considering there's a lot of glass for light to shine through. What do you guys have and please peel free to post pics. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Tint limits vary by state. Legally you can't put much of strip on the front window there is no factory tint or AS1 line at the top of the windshield. I went with Llumar Ceramic 40% on all side and back windows with the exception of the lower rear hatch glass. I had the windshield tinted with Llumar Air Blue 80. The windshield tint makes a heck of allot of difference in the amount of heat that builds up in the car when parked and keeps it cooler while driving. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
Dustoffoo3 can you please post pics of your car, especially the windshield. I am thinking of tinting my windshield and sunroof(bald LOL) with the Air Blue 80, but go with 30 for the rest of the car.Has anybody tinted their sunroof if so please post some pics. Thanks
I went with 33% 3m Crystalline, which offered the highest level of UV and IR protection. It works... I hardly feel the sun at all through the tint here in sunny Georgia. It was pricey - about $400 for all side windows and the back window through a top notch tint shop.
I have 18% but that's only the rear windows and hatch. Anything on the fronts is illegal in CA. I'd also concentrate on finding a good installer with a tint brand & model you like (preferably with a guarantee and lifetime warranty).
My tint details are in my signature below. I am very happy with the result, money well spent. Had XLNT Tint in Anaheim do it.
Just had mine done a couple of weeks ago. 35% on the sides and lower rear hatch window, and 18% on the upper hatch window.
PG, I don't think photos of the windshield would help, you really could not tell it was tinted unless I told you. You might be able to tell in a before and after picture. I will try and take some for you none the less. No I do not believe it is. I do not notice anything strange either when I am driving with my high contrast polarized sunglasses on either.
This person has Air Blue 80 all around. Not very noticeable, but good to go with if you don't like the tinted look.
Yesterday, we had the sides and rears tinted with 35% carbon. My poor chocolate lab was cooking in the back seat. Now its all good. Next 17" wheels so the Prius looks a little more substancial going down the road.
Went with 3M - don't know the % but the tint shop called it dark. The darkest he had was called "limo", but I didn't want it that dark. I have the same % on all the windows, including the back.
I original had the factory tinit which was 35% on the front doors and 30% the rest of the way around. I went and had it changed to 25% on the front doors and 5% the rest of the way around. The factory tint was just one style, could not get them to go darker, was told the tint was packaged that way??? Anyway, like the darker tint better.
I have 18% all around. Except the windshield, of course. I love it. It looks a little darker in this picture than it is in person. You can't see through the back windows at all from looking from the outside into the car. The front windows are slightly see through, so someone could see a outline of your body. Nothing more. I enjoy it, and it's extremely comforting in my car with the sun beating down. I also like the extra darkness in the cabin with the tint. The front windows seem "lighter" because of the light coming through the windshield.
