This weekend the hubby and I went in and traded my 2004 Prius for a 2011 Prius Model Three. It's a winter grey metallic and with light grey seats. Awesome handling so far, although I only have 50 miles on it.

We were talking about upgrading to a Sierra mini-van with two growing boys in the family, but with gas prices continuing to escalate, we just couldn't justify 22 mpg.

Congratulations from here too. If gas keeps going up, you made the best choice.

Yes, congrats! Good move, as a mini- Van may be hard to justify at the pumps, after owning a Prius? Hal

Grats. I believe gas prices are only going to go higher. (They) think of every reason to make it so. I have guys at work asking all the time what mpg I get. Some are now considering......Go figure. You made a great choice. :D

Yes, we weighed that in as well, but I am not an early adopter--I will never buy a new vehicle the first year out, so we would be looking at 2 yrs before trading and I couldn't wait that long!

My hubby's Subaru is going on its 7th year as well, so he may opt to get something bigger in the Prii family at some time.

With the direction of gas prices and the mileage of the Gen3, I believe you will become more and more comfortable with the wisdom of your decision as time goes on. Welcome to the group and the future.

Hmm...just curious. Did you ever consider The Prius v? Seems like you are exactly the market that Toyota is hoping to reach with it.

    I'm curious about your reasons.

First, what part of a Prius with a longer end is early adoption ?
Second, what forced you to act now ?

Congrat on the new Prius, I have a 2006 Sienna and used it for 5 years, since gas price only go up so we retire the Sienna at home for weekend use only, our Sienna only average 21mpg 80% freeway and 20% city driving, we used it a lot and commute 120 miles daily, that's a lot gas $$$ to burn, so We finally get the Prius IV with NAV and since then we love it, We also have 2 kids and the Prius works well but lose only cargo space and the 3rd row seat, once again congrat on the new Prius purchase, winter grey was my 1st choice 2nd is the Blizard Pearl white, wife chose the white. It's just makes hard for me to keep up with the car wash! :(

I have never understood the minivan phenomenon but since my parent's largest car while we were growing up was a Taurus I suppose that is why I don't see the point.

Oh and congrats, our cars are almost identical!

I always thought buying a first year vehicle to be a bad idea. However, I bought my 2007 (first year) FJ Cruiser 06/2006, drove it 50K miles before trading in on my prius last month. It was one of my all time favorite vehicles. I'd still have it were it not for gas prices.

Well, I had 2 boys in Boy Scouts and my own small business. I had 2 minivans and they were incredibly versatile vehicles and comfortable on long trips. That being said, I'm glad I don't need one anymore.

OMG a familiar face! I'm Racer001 on the FJ Forums and im SO glad I'm not the only one that traded their FJ for a Prius! I feel so bad still, but so far I've driven 290 miles on a HALF tank thats would be like 1.2 Tanks in my FJ!
