As I saw in a previous post there was a recall on almost all 2004&2005 Prii involving the inverter coolant pump before you tackle this project on your own however self gratifying it may make you feel It would behoove you to have dealer do it for free.
Thanks Stefano - You mean this: They are very clear that this is NOT a recall, but it sounds like they are replacing it for no charge. I just wasn't real clear on the process, and I've gotten no notice.
There are a few hoops to jump through on getting Toyota to pay for it, but it can be done. I had to send them my original paid invoice. The dealer cannot do it for you. It took a couple of weeks, but they did send me a check.
Oh, crazy. So the dealer charges me, then I have to go after Toyota corporate to make good on it? Sigh. Almost as fun as the mail-in-rebate!
Yes, try removing the jumper while IG-ON to see if that makes any difference. No, I don't know what is signified by the continued presence of the warning lights. I believe that jkash paid to have the inverter coolant pump replaced, prior to Toyota implementing the LSC. Now that the LSC is in place, if your car falls within the eligible VIN range, you just have to make an appointment for the pump replacement and there should not be any charge to you.
Is there a list of codes available some where? Just bought a 2005 Prius. It had Red Brake light and (!), ABS, VSC lights on. I got following codes (!) 41, 48, 66, 95 ABS 42 VSC 45 Air Bag 23 even though this light was not on After reset only (!) 41 and 48 are gone rest of them still there. Also the Diagnostic screen shows Navigation is not connected and it asks for a CD. Where does the navigation DVD go? I have already checked all the obvious stuff like battery and the inverter coolant pump. Thank you for any suggestions.
41: Abnormal 12V signal, check the 12V for low charge, and the ABS relays for high resistance. You mentioned already checking the battery, what is its voltage after resting for several hours? 48: Stroke sensor zero point undone. Requires factory level scan tool to recalibrate. Try O'Brien Toyota in Indy or a good independent Toyota shop.
Patrick, please help. My '06 Prius has had (!), ABS, VSC lights on for a while now. At first they were on and off after some time they stopped going away. I checked the maintenance mode for battery voltages and they were not that goo--out of the good range by a couple points. I finally got around to this forum and tried removing the battery neg. terminal for 5 min. but that didn't work. I went to AutoZone and had them check the error codes, but there were none. I can try the jumper trick, but its really hard to get under there and look. The A/C is working great and drives fine. If it was the coolant pump would it have been apparent by now? I tried listening to it, i don't hear an aquarium like you said. It is vibrating fast though. What do you think? Thanks.
1. Look at the inverter coolant reservoir (mounted on the side of the inverter). Do you see fluid turbulence within? If yes then the inverter coolant pump is working. 2. To clear skid control ECU DTC, you need to do the pins 4-13 jumper trick at the OBD-II connector. That ECU will retain memory when 12V power is removed so there is no point in disconnecting the 12V battery. 3. A generic OBD-II code scanner that can be found at AutoZone will not read the DTC produced by the skid control ECU and other specialty ECUs found in Prius. If you are lucky, that generic scanner will read DTC produced by the engine ECU and maybe the hybrid vehicle ECU. 3. If the AC compressor is working then the inverter is probably fine, which means that the 12V system is producing the correct voltage and that the (!), ABS and VSC lights are pointing to a real problem with the braking system. Since this is a safety issue you need to have your Toyota dealer check out the problem ASAP.
The brakes seem to operate OKAY, i may remember them working slightly better. But i agree i need to get it fixed ASAP. This started happening some time after i had a "lifetime" alignment done at a Firestone here. Is it worth going back to them about this issue (4 months later) ?
I'll bet they (Firestone) disconnected or damaged a wheel speed sensor. Check to make sure all your wheel speed sensors are plugged in and not damaged (ie: wiring, connectors etc).
No, because Firestone will not be able to obtain the DTC or perform the needed corrective action. I agree that it would not hurt to raise up the car to check the wheel speed sensor connections.
I had a mechanic check the sensors. They all were connected. I have nothing left to do but to go to Toyota don't I? They charge a $120 fee just to walk in (diagnosis).
That's too bad. What is your location? If there's not a "good" Prius shop nearby then, yeah, I guess its off to Toyota
Hi antx, If you are facing that 120 diagnostic fee, and don't want to go to Toyota, you might want to invest in the PriusChat Shop : ScanGauge II Scan Tool + Digital Gauges + Trip Computers [ScanGaugeII] - $159.95 that is offered here on Prius Chat. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that the scan gage will pull the code's for you whereas you can identify the area that needs work. If you are mechanically inclined and want to stay away from the stealer, the scan gage would be a good tool to have. The idiot lights on the car can only tell you if there is a problem. For what it is worth, $120 is high imo, local stealer here charges $85 for diagnostic, and they are Toyota too. Good luck to you, and I hope what I posted gives you some help. Ron (dorunron)
Is that the only scanner that works with it? Will it tell me which wheel sensor is bad? How much would it cost to replace a wheel sensor at a non dealer?
