Just got this HU and planning to install it along with rear view camera. Most sites list it at $1799 but I managed to get it brand new from authorized dealer with free shipping for $1250.

Along with 9980, here is what I got in addition (I will update this post with links and prices later):

    • Toyota HU Trim Piece #55406-47080
    • (-) Axxess ASWC – Steering wheel control
    • Metra 70-8114 Steering wheel control harness for ASWC
    • Metra 70-1761 harness for Toyota
    • Kenwood KCA-iP302 audio/video cable for iPod
    • Rear View Camera Toyota Camry 09 (eBay seller "factorykiss")

    Edit #1:
Axxess ASWC – Steering wheel control: replaced with SWI-JACK as I can't get ASWC work with HU at all. I am getting output signals but HU does not accept them.
Metra 95-8202 kit not required for this HU as the plate is already included (when used with #55406-47080).

    Edit #2:
In order to program ASWC to work with Kenwood:

    1. Disconnect the ASWC output wire (pink wire) from the Blue/pink striped wire on the 9980HD.
    2. Connect a 12kOhm resistor (soldered a 10K and two 1K resistors in series) in series between the two wires from step one.
    3. Reset the ASWC by pressing the reset switch for about 2 seconds.
    4. Let the ASWC run through the auto-program process.
    5. Remove the resistor and reconnect the two wires from step one.

    Update 2012-01-22:

I was unable to get second ASWC module to work, even with resistor. I will continue using SWI-JACK for now... What I noticed is that SWI-JACK work much better if Flash memory-based iPod is used (I was using originally 80GB iPod Classic and switched to 64GB iPod Touch). It is especially important if you have cover art embedded in each song as I do. Right now I do not have any problems with SWI-JACK except when Kenwood is busy updating the cover art image on the unit screen. During this time, next/previous song buttons will not work because of Kenwood unit, not SWI-JACK.

Wow! Where can I get this for $1250? I haven't seen it for less than $1799.

Good price and authorized too, so you have the warranty.

I went with the CMOS-200 over the -300 because it has a less distorted view and I do not need lines to help me park. With hind sight I might have gone with the Camry 2009-2010 camera as it is a direct fit. The -200 took some work to make it fit and look factory. I would stay away from the cheap cameras. You get what you pay for, but that's just my opinion.

Think you will be happier with the Toyota face plate as the "texture" and color match perfect. The 9980 comes with a plate you cut to fit as a filler. You can also go with the Toyota pieces listed in Spiderman's Sticky via Frenchie, but I like the first choice better as you mount it to the back of the faceplate. It does not move with the display when you change viewing angle and looks much cleaner.

I never posted my full install, but have shown bits and pieces of it in this forum. Here if I can help.

I've been running the 'cheap Ebay' cams in two 2010s. They have a VERY clear detailed color image, come with distance lines 'burned into the screen', and work well at night... As a bonus, they snap into the existing opening (no screws, no cutting). I just snapped mine in, and used a bit of hot melt on the sides...

It looks like the $300 rebate starts from May 1st to the end of July.

I spoke with someone at Kenwood and they told me that the warranty for this unit is 2 years, but on the warranty card it is listed as 1 year for US. Does anybody know what it is for US?

Could you please take some pictures of your Kenwood CMOS-200 camera install?

    -------------

I still prefer a guide lines on the camera and clean "factory" install vs the one I will have with Kenwood CMOS-200.

What do you think about this Audiovox ACA300 wireless camera kit:

    Audiovox : Rear Observation Systems : ACA300

It will probably save a lot of work and wiring.

    -------------

That's what I got already - the original Toyota plate. Still not sure how to install all pieces together so the HU will not stick out of the plate and fill all the gaps. I am also wondering how can I reinforce the HU so it will be not easy to steal. Many years ago I've used a custom made metal part attached to the back of unit that was screwed to the car body with screws with non-standard heads. Any ideas?

Will do. I already took some pictures of the unit itself and things I got for it, so at the end it should be very detailed and photographed.

Here's some dirty car pictures of the CMOS-200 custom fit to the factory installed blank plate.

Remember this units display has adjustable screen angle. I did not like the Metra or Toyota side pieces attached to the HU as they move with. I went with the prevoius method as illustrated.

With regards to security mounting...if they want it, they will take it. Tinted windows and lowering volume blocks before parking can help. Be sure to add all installations and upgrades to your insurance.

Think it's time I got off my butt and post my full installation in one place.:D

I am surprised, Kenwood's camera looks like OEM... Now I guess I should order both cheap and CMOS-200 (with 30-day return policy :) ) and compare them. Still like more the one with lines, however.

It took some "work" to get that look. Opinions vary on the wireless cameras, I just prefer hard wired. If you like the lines, do it. I didn't let anyone tell me what I wanted, just solicited friendly opinions.
