I never knew BMW drivers (or Prius drivers) were considered such a stereotyped and hated group until I joined this forum. Now, when driving, I find myself wondering if the BMW driver next to me hates me or my car :(.

Comfort you self ... I find no evidence Prius drivers are hated (can't speak for BMW). Whenever you read a bitter, hatred, negative post, glance to the left ... it is most often written by a "non-prius "owner or "another hybrid" owner. I am at a loss to explain why that ilk want to express their personality on this, otherwise very informative thread.

Also ... in time you learn to just ignore some writers. They have nothing productive to say .... just discontent. Would't you hate to possess that personality?

    OK, Back on topic:

My driving style probable confuses other drivers.
I have never driven slow and usually am 5-10 over limit.

But I anticipate traffic flow and do alot of coasting, rather than braking. If I know I am going to hit the next red light, I coast up to the light but am fast off the light.

I notice all other Prius of course and I see alot of elderly people around here really hosing traffic up in the fast lane.
There in there new gas saving car and are trying to get to 60 mpg's.
In the fast lane. And they are clueless on how to drive the car. They creep away from the light in the fast lane.
Oblivious to anyone else. Which makes all the F-150 drivers behind them crazy.

Its what has created alot of hate for the Prius I think.
That and every redneck in this country thinks the Prius is "gay".
Anything green is gay & communist. Go to any other car forum. To them the Prius is a joke. And most of them have never even driven or rode in the car.

I am always in the slow lane but even there if your not keeping up with the pack which around here means 5 over, the guy behind
you when he passes you has to just miss your quarter panel going around you.

Whats really really stupid is when all of us are approaching a stoplight.

Its red. We can all see its red. Instead of all of us getting off the gas and coasting up to a stop since we can all see its red everyone has to punch it to get to the redlight first. They have to whip around you and punch it and you get the obligatory dirty as they go by.

I just coast up next to them and stare at them while we sit at the light.

I'm hoping when gas hits $5 maybe that behavior will stop.
If the country as a whole stopped that idiocy it would probably save millions of gallons of gas everyday.

Interestingly, with increasing use of the Internet, including on cellphones, people are writing more than ever before.

I always drive slow. I drive something called the speed limit and set the cruse. In the communist state of we are broke "Illinois" one can literally drive as fast as you want no money, no police. The other people get their zoom zoom and pay pay for gas i have my prius ching ching saving cash.

Hello all you non Prius drivers. Yep, I am more interested in eeking out that last .1MPG than I am getting out of your way as you persist on driving 15 MPH over the speed limit. I figure if I am driving the speed limit and you are 15 over, I am not tha bad guy, you are. Rest assured my middle finger is up as you a****le your way past me. I just keep it low and out of sight because your road rage is not going to ruin my day. Let me say this to all of you that don't like the way we Prius owners drive and are intent upon barging into our forum to tell us about it. You can all go f*** yourselves.

I know for fact in the D/FW area nobody could survive a week poking in the fast lane as described, nor do I see this...I doubt this happens anywhere in the US....if it does it's in isolated places.

Poking along in the fast lane just does not happen.

I'm pessimistic about America's future because so many voters insist on rejecting facts and choosing wishful/hateful opinions on talk radio, the net, etc. "Any thing green is gay and communist"....that and the birther and death panel rubbish.

The only way I see America remaining a superpower beyond 2050 is if the emotional intelligence of rival nations is even more retarded than the examples just pointed out.

Young'ens on the Internets know that you don't need to hit "enter" after every line in a post.

ProTip: You don't need to in an e-mail, either.

I've lost count on driving threads like this and comments on hypermiling articles....they are not very rational discussions.

Don't you find it interesting how the gearheads rant about their right to go over the posted limit while demonizing those that don't as a serious hazard? Really logical.

I have slowed down from doing 80mph to 65 to 70mph on the interstate since getting my Prius. But like someone poster earlier, the faster you drive the more slow cars you observe and the slower you drive the more fast cars you observe.
It drives my wife nuts that I observe the speed limit more than in the past. One day we were driving down I-35 on a Saturday morning and I mentioned it seemed a lot more traffic than usual. A couple minutes later she exclaims "I see why it's so slow, there's a convoy of Priuses up ahead!"

I've even heard it from somebody who speeds but doesn't maintain a steady speed.
