Since this is my first post here, I'll start of by mentioning that I'm very excited to be selling my 2004 Pontiac Vibe and moving to a 2005 Prius later this week! The Prius is decked out with the navigation system, JBL audio, 6-disc CD changer, bluetooth, etc -- my understanding is that it's a 2005 "Package 6" in terms of the optional features. My Vibe has an aftermarket in-dash navigation system/radio, which I constantly use to listen to music off of my iPhone... a feature I really don't want to give up with the Prius. I'm trying to figure out the best way to integrate my iPhone with the new car -- from what I've found on this forum, the 2005 Prius' Bluetooth doesn't support A2DP, only handsfree phone functionality... so, from what I gather, I'd need either a 3rd Party Bluetooth add-on (that supports A2DP) or a 3rd Party iPod/iPhone adapter to hook it into the car's audio system (the better option for me, IMO) Yes, I could use an FM modulator or tape adapter, but I'd rather get something with a dock connector for the best possible audio quality. Here's my big question -- I've seen a lot of people recommend DICE or VAIS add-ons for iPod/iPhone support. What I can't definitively pinpoint is whether I need to disconnect the CD changer to use such a device... can anybody clarify a) Whether I'll have to disconnect the CD changer to add an iPhone cable to the radio (which isn't a major problem -- honestly, I've never played a CD in my current car, I always use the iPhone) and b) Whether the VAIS SL2i-UP or SL2iC will, indeed, work with my Prius? I was able to find a lot of great info here, but couldn't quite figure out the availability of an auxiliary input on the '05 Prius. Sorry for the long post, but I appreciate any advice anyone here can give me!
google "lockpick" and see if that may fit your needs. *EDIT* This will get you started, based on what you would like: http://www.coastaletech.com/04prius.htm
I have the same model and package. I basically called a local stereo shop and told them what I had. They had the kit I needed and installed it. I had no problems with integration for the Iphone 4 and the music. However, I haven't tried or can't (some people say) download my contacts to the car's phonebook.
You don't need to disconnect your CD changer to install a DICE kit for the iPod/iPhone in the 2005 Prius. The phone will show up as CD2 (Changer2) or SAT1, depending on your settings. Dice have replaced the silverline with a newer model with additional functionality.
Thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. I ordered the kit and should be getting it installed next week. As a side note -- I drove my Prius home Thursday and I'm loving it!
