    Thought I'd try this.

PC has lots of bright, well-informed folks who get info from a variety of sources. Why not share some of the more interesting facts we run across?

Ground rules: (1) briefly stated-try to keep to two sentences max (2) state source---if not sure ("heard on radio"), do best you can (3) if it seems incredible to you, ask if anyone can confirm (4) discussion/clarification/contradiction allowed
as long as thread is not hijacked (5) thread may not be used frequently, so you may have to dig for it on p. 3 at Fred's

You may want to check out (on this thread) whether something you read or heard IS a fact---or an urban myth---exaggeration---speculation---statistical misrepresentation (e.g., taken out of context)---whatever.

My father is in a crypt right next to Joan Crawford.

    Does that count?

uhhh, no they are not. I used to work at the Wal-Mart home-office in Bentonville Arkansas and Sam is buried in a cemetary just behind the home-office. It can be seen from the back of the cafeteria for that matter.

I have been to his grave, and many people I know were at his funeral, He is most assuredaly in Bentonville Arkansas.

    Walton, Sam b. March 29, 1918 d. April 5, 1992
Businessman. After graduating from the University of Missouri, he began his career as a retail merchant when he opened the first of several franchises of the Ben Franklin five-and-dime franchises in Arkansas. He opened his first Wal-Mart store in 1962; specializing in name-brands at low prices, the chain of Wal-Mart stores sprang up across rural America. His management style was popular with employees and helped to spur growth, taking the company public in 1970. The decentralized distribution...[Read More]

overweight people are resistant to leptin, much like non insulin-dependent diabetics are resistant to insulin.

source(s): a whole lot of papers on pubmed.

conclusion: don't buy that 'leptin pill' commercial you see on tv. or anything labeled 'nutraceutical'

"Time" again on Walton---unless I read it wrong, and it's SAM's father---let me do some checking---thanks---it makes sense for him to be in Arkansas---but better if he were buried under Human Resources

The worst guzzler tested by EPA for '06 is the Dodge Ram 1500 2WD 8.3L pickup:

9 MPG City 12 MPG Hwy

To drive the truck from L.A. to NYC @ $2.50/gal, if it lived "up" to its highway rating, would cost $625. To do it in a Prius @ 50 MPG would cost $150.

That's a lot of mocha and cheese puffs.

Oh yeah, and every guard spends five hours a day getting his uniforms ready for guard duty.
