Hello I Just purchased a 2008 Prius and it only has 1 fob ( dealer supposed to get 2nd one from previouse owner) yea, right. Well I sure would like a second one just in case. Anyone know the replacement csot? It's the older style,no keyless entry. Thanks..................Wojo
Sorry, I don't know the cost but the above problem seems pretty common lately. It's rather annoying that it's even possible to buy a car w/its second key missing, esp. when you can't get a duplicate for <$10. As for "It's the older style,no keyless entry", it has nothing to do w/age but rather equipment level. In some cases, it's referred to there as smart-entry, smart-start and in others smart key system. I have an 06 package NL, so I have SKS. A former coworker had a very stripped down used 08 or 09 that appered to have no package (it definitely had no input jack, MP3/WMA support, SKS nor backup camera).
New, non-SKS fobs (black Toyota logo) are absurdly-priced, about $140, and then have to be programmed. Don't even get us started on the problems with adding smart key fobs (silver logo).
You obviously have a relationship with the dealer and the dealer acknowledges that there is a second key. It seems to me, that if he can't get it from the "previouse (previous?) owner," than he owes you a new one. Your "csot" (cost?) should be zero.
Naa.. it is a typical dealership bait and switch sales tactic. Had similar non-Prius buying experience. They said that they have a key, they just need to find it. After calling them back for several weeks it was nowhere found. Arguing wasn't gonna do anything as you sign "AS-IS" clause on used car, but at least they where nice to program new one for free, after we got it from flee-bay. IMHO just cut the losses and find a good deal on replacement good luck

last month I bought an 08 certified from local dealer, similar story, only one key, after writing owner of dealership best I can do is buy new fob from dealer for their "cost" of $200 and they'll program it for free. I'm gonna do it.....
Well I have to eat my words!. Dealer called today and said I HAVE IT, from the last owner. So I guess he's not too bad after all. Even better news, I had to make a 85 mile highway trip today and recieved a pleasant surprise. 64.6 MPG going 56.1 returning ( strong headwind). not bad for just learning to drive a Prius.
