Will the homelink system work with a garage door opener that rotates frequencies? I have an Overhead Door system with CodeDodger and they say it "Automatically changes access code each time remote controller is activated. Each new code is selected from 4.3 billion combinations."
Sure, that's just a rolling-code opener. Most openers manufactured over the last 10 years are rolling-code. Mine is this type. They do not not change frequencies, just codes. The Prius Homelink mirror can handle them. Three of them, in fact (you have 3 buttons to use).
And it's very easy to program - I followed the directions in the manual and was done within 5 minutes for both doors.
I wondered why I was confused: From the User Guide found somewhere here on PC (Fourth Edition, Second Revision for the HSD (2004-2006) model): Garage Door To program a Homelink button on your mirror to open & close your garage-door, do the following... * Note: this programming is only available for remotes with non-rolling security codes. From Toyota.com Glossery: HomeLink®² Universal Transceiver The HomeLink System learns the codes for up to three remote-controlled devices through a simple training process. HomeLink can then activate those devices at the push of a button -- all from one unit permanently mounted in the vehicle's sun visor, overhead console or mirror. There's no transmitter clutter in the vehicle, no batteries to change or individual transmitters to misplace. HomeLink is rolling-code compatible, is powered by the vehicle's charging system, can be reprogrammed at any time and can activate home lighting with the available HomeLink Lighting Package. ²HomeLink® is a registered trademark of Johnson Controls.
Here's a much more complete programming manual for Homelink® devices: <http://www.homelink.com/training/hlmanual.pdf> It includes full instructions on how to program both rolling and non-rolling code openers, how to use with X-10 devices, and even how to completely clear the memory (in case you get all screwed up on the programming, or in case you sell the car). The most important tip is to pop a brand-new ultra-fresh battery into your old stand-alone opener before using it to program the Homelink® mirror.
