Hi there, I have a 2008 Prius, and I have a couple noises, one of which is related to the airplane noise. I've noticed recently mine starts to make that humming noise in the 50-60mph range (less so at higher or lower speeds). There is 44,000 miles on the car. Also, there is a noise as I coast thru a drive thru in the left wheel area. The noise is kind of like a wet finger on the rim of a wine glass, combined with fingernails on a chalkboard. That's the best I can come up with. I took it to the dealer and they said a pebble was lodged in the wheel. That didn't fix the problem. So I'm dropping it off for the day tomorrow. It has the Certified Pre-Owned warranty. I bought it last summer. Anyway, didn't know if any of you all had the same issue? Kind of annoying. Probably looked like I was crazy, but my wife heard it also! Anyway, it is a great car otherwise!
Check under your outside mirrors. There are three holes for mounting screws that Toyota cheaply covers with tape. If the tape is missing you get a humming or whistling noise.
They said there was a leaf rubbing against the rotor, and the hum was normal. Don't here the "wine glass" noise anymore. Guess I answered my own question. Great car!
after the daler replaced teh bearing did that fix the problem. I have the same problem withmy prius and the dealer said there was nothing wrong with it.
