    macman,

    Thanks.
The "Ready" state is unique to the Prius. For one, it seems to serve the purpose of mechanical "parking interlock" system in other vehicles. In conventional vehicles, the transmission lever physically can't be moved unless the brake pedal is pressed.
Adding the "Ready" state allows the Prius to do so without having a mechanical lock.

FWIW: In all the Honda's we've had, while there was a lock to prevent shifting out of park without the engine on, but there was also an override, typically a slot you pushed the ignition key (or any flat bladed instrument) through, to depress a tang, which allowed you to shift the car into neutral.

Very handy if you want to roll the car a few feet.

It is not. It exists on the HyCam, NAH, Lexus HS 250h and apparently the FFH (2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid: Start Already! Oh...wait...). It is equivalent to starting the ICE on a non-hybrid by turning the key to the start position then releasing it so that it remains in on/run.

As for your latter assertions, that sounds like a guess to me. While in park, although the shift lever on 2nd gen and above Priuses can be moved w/o pressing the brake pedal, the request will be rejected and thus have no effect.

You really need to own or rent a Prius to better understand the car instead of making your odd leaps of "logic".

Isn't there a thread on here that shows how to put "after market remote start" on the car? The remote start option is $349 sold here on PriusChat. It sounds as if it is pretty involving to put on so I don't think just any person could do it and my guess is it would be very expensive to get a dealer to do it if it doesn't void the warranty.

    +1

That's exactly what I was thinking of, you beat me to it. :) Did you actually try this on your car?

This button would double as a nice way to reset the cruise control without applying the actual brake and loosing speed, or turning the cruise control off and loosing your "resume" setting.

Hmm, I think I want it...
