Has anyone tried to install foot lights to a prius that does not have it factory installed? I would like to do this if it is not too complicated. I'm assuming the wiring is already there and we only need to add the connectors, bulb, and harness. If it were only that simple.
You would probably have to tap into the harness at the ECUs or possibly tap into the wires running to say the current door foot lights. I have been thinking about doing this myself since I have an extra pair of LED bulbs.
I think the 4's and 5's come stock with footlights. I'm sure there some type of connection already there, so we would not have to "tap" or "slice" into any wiring. Anyone poke their head up in there to have a look??? From the looks of it, there are already "holes" for the lamp bases on the plastic covers under there. I just don't have access to a gen 3 that already has them installed. This would be the easiest way to compare. I tried looking on the parts diagrams , but have not been able to find what I am looking for. I'm probably just not looking in the right place............

Yep - check out my mod from last summer (click below). Keep in mind these footwell lights are only for the front passenger and driver - and they only go on based on the door being opened. They cannot be turned on while driving or with the dome light control.
I was going to say, you can just tap the dome light wire and it'll go on an off with them. I wired my friends to a 12v source and then added a switch so he could turn them on and off as he pleased.
Is the switched dome light wire in each side kick panel (as shown in my mod)? If so, it would be a simple matter to change the wire tap to the switched wire and wala! Both footwell lights would come on with any door opened and behave just like the dome light. A "nice to have", but not a "have to have".
^^ I think you'd need a relay since you need a 12v constant source if you wanted to turn them off while the dome lights were off and still have them light up and dim with the dome light.
