Default display

I had not played with the Display "Settings" until I read this thread. I have a new (two weeks and 550 miles) 2011 Prius II and just now used the "settings" to turn off the display. Everything on the right half of the display blanked except for the Clock.

If I step thru the "Trip" button, the Odometer miles, then the "A" miles, then the "B" miles, and then the "Miles to Empty", and then a Blank in that area. Only the miles show this way, not the other info that is normally displayed with the "Trips".

I shut down the car (no brake) and when I came back and started the car a couple hours later, it was still blanked out (default??)

I did the "Settings" Display blank originally with the car not running. In other words, the car was off and I hit the start button twice (no brake peddle) so that the full display was showing.

I will be driving again in a couple hours and will confirm if the "blank" is still "defaulted".

English is not my first language and probably I misunderstood. The OP does not like the "animated" screen, when the car starts, because it is a distraction? Distraction from what?
And some of us here even agree, discuss the issue and are trying to solve his problem?
This feature is the way for our car to tell us that all the systems are functioning well and some of us do not like it?
There are drivers out there who would pay good money for such an advantage and we find a defect on this? Are we nuts?
I have a solution for you: Just close your eyes for a few seconds and you will not see the "distraction"!

That would be great if it stays the way it was set... it didn't for mine or the OP's. Let us know.

Just got back from my trip and the display stayed blank after two starts. I sat in the garage turned the display on and then blanked it with the car running in park. Turned the car off and restarted and the displayed stayed blank. So it does not seem to matter whether the car is running or not when I set it to "blank"

Of course, the "Welcome to Prius" display comes on for a few seconds, but then then is blank for all the time one is driving.
Appears to be a default mode on my car anyway.

Very interesting... perhaps something new on the 2011?

 

I need to try that myself. I have always set the blank screen to on when the car was "full on" - that is I turned it on with the brake pedal depressed. Never in accessory mode.
No such detail on the user's manual, that I recollect.

 

Maybe this is a 2011 option. But one would think that a 2010 could be updated with software.

I tried the following.
Pushed twice the On button without pressing the brake pedal.
Went into the settings screen and set it to "off".
Turned off the car and waited that the ODO and the clock disappeared (they come up when you turn off the car).
Waited a couple more seconds and turned on the car normally (brake pedal depressed)...
...the screen turned on normally again.... --> it doesn't work on mine - "blank" screen is only a 1-time setting... (I suspect a software feature that has been "forgot", in its first versions of Gen3 since it makes no sense to turn off the screen to have it on again once you turn off/on the car - it is not showing any legally binding information, so if I can set it to "off" it should remain so - I think they simply forgot to program it properly...).

 

Sorry to hear it did not work. At least (after my playing with the "Settings" several times), it only takes a few seconds to Blank the display.

Still seams like it should be correctable on the 2010 cars.

 

Have you had a chance to try "Blanking" on your 2011? You are the only other person on this thread so far that has a 2011 Prius.
