Trying to help out my Folks ... They are thinking about a Bike Rack to mount in the Hitch .... Hatch mounted racks are not an option. That said, I would love to view pics of your Hitch Mounted Bike Rack. Thule vs Yakima ? I think Thule carries an edge with quailty. Please help out my Folks !!!! - Thanks
Got to go with Hollywood racks I stay away from carriers that hold the frame. Fork mounts have greater stability. Not the best angle but all I have.
Hollywood makes a Hitch Mount Rack? Agreed, fork mounts are best .... Have a Link (s) ? http://www.hollywoodracks.com/hitchRacks.html Looked above for a Fork Mounted Hitch Rack .... Nothing. Link please? Thanks
DGH - Here is your Bike Rack ... Which model Hollywood Rack, sir? First post in this Thread: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...oof-rack-system-2006-prius-2.html#post1137935 - Thanks
Aah, you again! Did you get the Thule rooftop rack? I also don't see the fork mount on their site. I just sent an email to Hollywood, I'll let you know.
Yes, thanks to you, I purchased the same Thule Roof Rack you have ... I'll try and post pics tommorrow. Thanks DGH - You are very helpful - God bless you sir.
I paid $100 last year for a 4 bike rack from walmart, connects to a Class 3 hitch, I must say I like it and I am not sure why others would pay $200+ for basically the same thing from Thule etc.
I have the Kuat 2 bike rack myself. It might not be the cheapest but it is the lightest for use on the Prius. I like the fact that it is not heavy to install and since I have expensive bikes to carry, it won't damage the paint on my bikes or the car. I also like the company that sells them since the owners only make bike racks and are bike enthusiasts.
We just got a http://www.amazon.com/Thule-970XT-Helium-Hitch-Carrier/dp/B001PQSE6U/ two-bike rack, and are satisfied. It's made of aluminum, which helps with the weight. It also comes with a 2-inch adapter, so it fits either of our Priuses, one of which has a 1.25" and the other a 2" hitch receiver.
I will likely be getting this rack for my 2010: http://www.amazon.com/SportRack-A30901-Hitch-Platform-Bike/dp/B000UUK276
Update from Hollywood. They no longer make the rack I have. The replacement is: Hi Dan, Great photo! No, we no longer make the Pro Rider, which is what you have, but we do have a fork mount version of the Sport Rider. It's part ref is: HR1000FM and it's $199.95 plus shipping (and tax if you're in CA). Best Regards, Rick / Hollywood Racks
I have a Thule Revolver from our previous daily ride. Would be nice if we can use that on the Prius. I wonder if the weight of that (heavy!) and 3 or 4 bikes along w/3 or 4 passengers would not be good for the Prius. I miss taking our bikes on excursions further from home. I would love to install a 2" hitch on the Prius if there's a good one to use w/this car. The platform racks are niccce (the Kuat mentioned etc...), no need to squeeze the bikes on the hanging racks... and some lighter-weight racks now.
if you are still looking, you might want to check out the Xport upright hitch mount at PerformanceBike.com I have it, and its on sale right now. I use it on my Durango and the Prius for both my upright bike and recumbent. Its very stable and I've used it across the country with no problems.
I have the lightweight sherpa model: Kuat Racks The NV model is heavier, and includes a built in bike repair stand: Kuat Racks
