K & N air filter

A high-flow airfilter compared to the stock cloth filter may give you the same results for about 1000 miles. Depending on the area you life the stock filter looses its "flow performance" by about 10% after 1000 mls. A filter like K&N does only loose 2%. And the flow gets worser the more you drive the car. This of course depends on size of the filter and design of the airbox too. If the stock filter is not white anymore its flow performance is degraded. But even on 80% the cfm it flows may still be enough for the 1.8l engine. I don't know the specs of the filter but its size tells me that it should be fine for 5000mls or so.

Due to my personal experiences ony many different cars I will change the filter for a high flow one on the Prius too.

 

I have now the HKS Suction Kit with a replacement filter on order. The k&n is known as good and is washable but I want to try a dry high flow filter. May aim is to increase the gasoline engines efficiency as I drive mostly up/downhill on highways on way to work. I'm lots of time in PWR area on this route.
