Does anyone have the manufacturers part number for the 2008 Prius rear wheel bearing(s) actual numbers on the bearing, not the hub. I have access to a press to push the bearings out and in but need to keep the car on the road till I replace the bearing witch at this time has a slight hum. The bearing hub in UK is £240 for non Toyota part, and as a pensioner need to save money.
Unfortunately, like the front, the hub and bearing assy for the rear are a complete unit and the part no is 42450-47030, Hope this helps.
Thanks Halpos4 but the rear hub can be dissembled with a suitable press and the bearing replaced for about £35 saving over £200 for a little bit of extra time witch I have plenty of.
Therein lies the problem Britprius, the only way to find what size/type bearing is required is to disassemble the hub and then you're off the road, Maybe if some of our NA/Canadian posters [the same part no ]have performed this bit of surgery, they'll give some advice.
This is what i am hoping , by the way the front bearings can be changed as well kit can be had from ebay £54. Where are you in Ireland i am thinking of coming over for a holiday this year, been many times (working) to Dublin and Galway and was always made very welcome. Will bring the prius and maybe the wife.
I'm in a town called Drogheda, about 30 miles north of Dublin, although i'm a taxi driver in Dublin City/County....for my sins, I like your thinking there..."i'll bring the Prius and MAYBE the wife"
If I come over I will look you up and buy you a Guiness. I would youse the high speed ferry from Hollyhead to Dublin.
I was looking at those bearings on ebay,is the price for 03 on not £103 as opposed to the £52 for 00-03? I buy all my spare parts from a Genuine Toyota/Lexus distributor in the UK or from Charles Hurst in Northern Ireland, parts from Toyota Ireland are extremely expensive and i stay well clear of them.
I just double checked and you are correct they are marked 03 but I believe the bearings are the same (do not quote me) I have also found some at £35. I cannot believe the Prius rear bearings are special I think they are possibly the same as the Auris or Aventis but I will find out, and when I do the job I will write it up and post pictures.
Dear Sir! I would like to ask you something....In a Toyota 2008 Prius, how can I measure the torque that the each wheel need to start rotate?? In my Toyota Corolla KE30, the service manual says, using a spring weight meter with which you have to pull the wheel until it starts rotation but in my prius service manual I can not find anything similar. Thank you!!!
You do not state if you are talking about front or rear wheels, the rears should be free to rotate apart from very slight disk brake rub, and the fronts with both wheels off the ground will have some resistance (turning the differential) but should still turn smoothly and easy by hand.
Thank you for your reply! I know about the disc brake and differential friction. But, how can I measure the rotate friction of all 4 wheels' bearings???? Thank you very much!
