We've had our '11 Prius II now for a couple weeks, and I have run into a problem I can't seem to figure out. When I lock the car, either using the button on the FOB or the smart key, then come back and try to unlock it using the smart key, it will lock the vehicle again. I have to wait a few seconds and try the smart key again and then it will unlock. I tried the search, but haven't found anyone else describing this. Any ideas or am I doing something wrong? Thanks- Patrick
Usually I am venemously opposed to the useage of Smilies in communication. However in this one incidence? I can think of no words that better reflect my reaction to this question thanop2:
I don't understand the question. I *think* you mean that it goes through a locking cycle when you come back, but I'm not certain from your description. Why don't you step us through your process. Tom
1. I lock the door with either the smart key or FOB. 2. I leave. 3. I come back later. Attempt to unlock the door with the smart key. It locks it again.
Funny I dislike smilies also. But unfortunately my response to your suggestion does not appear on this BB. So I will spell it out :flipoff:
smart key and FOB are the same thing Do you hear one beep when you lock the car? and you do know that with the fob in your pocket if you put your hand on the door handle it will unlock the door?
Sorry, sometimes members decide to act like know-it-alls on this forum. It's definitely an issue, and it's no wonder that many people think Prius owners are snobbish. I'm assuming you aren't using the button to try to unlock the car. If you are using the button to unlock the car.... then it's an easy fix because the unlock sensor is under the handle and isn't a button. But then if that's not the case you might need to take it to the dealer. Maybe the sensor is manufactured improperly.
Are you walking up to the car then touching the sensor on the handle? As you approach the car the door will unlock because of the Smart Key. When you get to the car you should simply pull on the handle to open the door. If you touch the sensor it will lock it again.
I think the OP is saying that he's tried using the smart key button on the door as well as the FOB button to lock the doors.
I'm not sure this is how SKS works. It should not unlock until you touch the sensor on the back of the handle.
Making the assumption that you are calling the smart key the sensors on the door handle, are you saying that when you put your hand inside the door handle to unlock, the sensor locks the door instead? If this is the case, are you sure you are not using the door lock sensor on top of the door handle? The sensor on top of the handle is the door lock sensor.
No, I am saying I tried the two different methods to lock the door. Either the button on the FOB, or the smart key on the the door. Not both methods at the same time. Using either method will result in the car locking again after I return and try to unlock the car using the smart key.
Okay, sorry. I'll take that. I probably deserve it. You do know that the "Smart Key" system is designed to be as non-touch and Automatic as possible? I'm not really clear why you are "unlocking" your car manually (using the fob) as you approach it anyway. If you have the smart key fob on you? As far as the drivers door, even in a Prius II, it should just be opening the door.... I think you can choose to have the Fob programmed to unlock the hatch and/or all the doors...since Prius II's don't have the sensors on all doors or the Hatch.
Thank you. I think this might be the answer. I wasn't paying attention to where I put my hand on the handle, I must have been locking it twice. I guess I will be rereading the manual again.
That's what I meant. Anyways, check out the video I posted on the first page, it was made by Toyota. It might be quicker than shuffling through the manual
when I've used the fob button to unlock my car, say at the ball field, then stop to talk to someone for a moment. After an undetermined length of time, if I don't approach the car with the fob, it will lock itself again. I understand that I can just grab the handle, but my kids are usually 15 feet ahead of me and get to the car first to put their gear in the trunk.
