We have been tolerating a bad squeak in the driver's side front door upon opening, closing (any type of swinging of the door). Dealer tried lubricating it with no success. They told us that they would order a new hinge and "hope" that resolves it. I am a little worried about this. Would you trust your dealer to remove and re-install the door or just live with the squeak?

They will probably have the Body Shop perform the repair, and they are probably used to handling repairs much worse than just replacing a door hinge! I wouldn't worry about it...

First of all my door hinge doesn't squeak. After reading this post I did go outside & looked at my car door hinge. I just completed replacing a door hinge on my brothers pick up truck, so I can speaking with some authority. I notice that the pin that the door hinge pivots on are stamped in place, they are not removable. Meaning that you would have to take the hinge off on the door side as well as the body side times two to replace the hinges. I also noticed that the door hinges are color coded to match the car. My opinion on this subject is NOT to replace the hinges. The first thing I would do is squirt some silicone spray around all moving parts of the hinge. It that doesn't work thy some penetrating oil. The other thing you my want to look at, there is another part of the assembly that is just below the top pin it hold the door open half way or all the way. I believe this part slides through rubber grommet , this could be what is squealing. Remember you have the electronics in the door if they remove the door. Good luck on what ever you decide to do.:rockon:

he already said the dealer lubricated it with no success in resolving the issue.....for the dealer to take the next step, I'm sure they lubed the crap out of it. Something must not be correct there, so I'd let them take it apart.

I took the car back to the dealer (to have them address another warranthy issue) but I told them to hold on the hinge replacement. The service manager was puzzled that I would not trust them to do this job, but the squeak just wasn't enough of an issue for me to allow my Pr(ec)i(o)us to have optional surgery that "might" cure the symptoms.
    Thanks for the advice.[IMG]

Since it's been a few months since your post I'm interested to see what came of your squeaky door, was it resolved?

I have the same issue with my 2010 Prius, front driver door squeaks. I've used silicone spray, which did not work, and also taken it to Toyota twice now with no success. First time they lubed it up and it was good for a few days. Second time they replaced a part they said can get cracked if the door is hyper-extended (my door was never hyper-extended) and they greased it up again, again the noise was still there. I'm starting think they can't fix it, even if they replace the entire door. So my dilemma is the same, I don't want to keep wasting my time at Toyota while they keep trying different things that don't work and end up hurting my door, or just live with the squeak... So I'm hoping maybe you found a solution?
