I'm starting a new thread because though it is sort of a continuation of a previous thought, I'm starting it up again anew.

When I took Priapus to Libertyville Toyota for his first oil change, I spoke with Jim, the nice mechanic guy. (You'll notice that I'm still plugging Libertyville Toyota since I have yet to experience anything other than good service) He ran my VIN, noticed that I'm good for the NAV update, and assured me that when my new DVD comes in he'll call me to schedule an appointment.

While we were talking, I mentioned the MFD beep. I told him that there has been some discussion on this board about it and how some poeple like it and others wish they could remove it. Another tech came by and the three of us discussed options.

    1) There is no mention in the manual of removing the beep.
    2) The beep is not affected by the stereo's volume control.
    3) The beep is not affected by the stereo's fade/balance controls.
    4) There is no screen in the MFD setup menu allowing the disabling of the beep.
    5) The beep might be coming from the front-center speaker? This from Timefor's amplified beeping.
    6) Of the 3,400 members of PriusChat, no one has been able to figure out how to disable the beep.

Jim said that when I bring Priapus by for the nav upgrade, he'll hook Priapus up and see what he can come up with. I said that I would look though PC and see if anyone has posted and clues that would help in the search.

So I'm not asking for an open debate on whether the beep is a good thing or a bad thing.
Rather, I would like to get some thoughts on where the beep is coming from and if it can be disabled. If the final answer is 'no' then that's that. But I for one want to give it an honest try.

Yesterday on the way home from work that exact beep stopped working. Everything else was fine. I pressed a number of buttons and could not get the beep. I had not done anything and I noticed no othe changes.

Today, the beep is back per usual.

Wierd. Yet another temporary glitch. Not my first, not my last I'm sure.

    I love this car.

Thomas, your Prius has one... you may have to look for it..

Set the NAV and change the route... that lady gets a real attitude...

I was doing something in the garage, the other day, needed to move the car.. moved it but only pushed the power button and got out... when I got in to move it again... BIG warning message flashed.. another attitude...

    My Prius has an attitude!!

It would be great to get rid of the beep (as well as the reverse beep, European Prius doesn't give up its reverse beep as easily as the US one :) ).

Coming Monday Preto Prius is going to get its first service, so I'll ask the dealer about the reverse beep then.

Well, I will go ahead and give a good clue as to where the "beep" is coming from and then if noone has figured it out.. I will give the secret out... even though this thread is super old. =D The "beep" is coming straight from the MFD to the HU out through the speakers... Its one wire on the top left connector on the MFD.. that should make people happy...

replace your head unit and it goes away  but the feedback beep from hitting any button on the MFD is really helpful in letting you know you hit it without looking away from the road so I miss that.
