I noticed that hissing/buzzing/whining sound immediately when I got my '07, 2 years ago. Bought an in-line ground loop/noise filter from Crutchfield Online that cured it instantly. Just my luck, I see now Toyota fixes it for free ;)

This is definitely happening on my 2009.
I went to the dealership and they said that the TSB from 2007 (TSB2810) didn't apply to the 2009 because "the issue has been fixed". Unfortunately I didn't have a charge cable to demonstrate to him so will go back tomorrow (with the cable to demonstrate).
In the mean time I called the toyota customer care line and, actually I was surprised by this, they said "I'm sorry to hear about your issue, the line-noise issue happens with a lot of newer cars" at which point I interrupted and told him I knew about the TSB from the 2007 prius. He said that the 2007 fix HAD been applied to my car - but I heard that this isn't necessarily true - that the 2009 is essentially the same model as the 2007 so would still have this issue unless someone specifically fixed it.
He did take down my information and say they would investigate the issue and see if there's anything they colud do - that they'd call me back. Will post what I hear here.
Can someone with experience on how TSB's work let us all know if what they said is true? That if a TSB (non-safety) existed for a 2007 prius that it would definitely have been applied to a 2009 car? If so who applies it - the dealer or is it done at the factory?
    Thanks.

Go on line at ebay and order a 16$ 3.5 mm in line choke. Plug one end into the 1/8 jack in center console, plug Ipod into the output of choke. Problems solved for under 20$.

Paul, why should I pay $20 - and deal with a stupid dongle - for Toyota's mistake?

I was able to get them to do the repair. It took some persistence but it's done. The trick is to call the Toyota Customer Care 800 number and get them to do the convincing for you. Also, they can then file an official 'bug report' or whatever they call them.

I brought my '07 in last year to have this fixed. After a couple of tries to get the parts they finally said they did the fix. I still have bad sounds. I've resorted to listening to the iPod on headphones while I procrastinate getting this sorted out for real.

Anyone have a suggestion of an easy way to verify that the fix was done properly. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of confidence in my dealer :(

I'm having trouble orienting myself to the TSB diagrams and step 1 of the refers to another document that I don't have access to.

Quick question, can the repair be done without the Adapter Assembly? I already have the aux port, and that part alone was quoted at 145 from my dealer. TIA :)

You can accomplish it with a ground loop isolator, as was stated earlier in the thread. That's what I used until the TSB came out and I had the work done.

I discovered this not long after I took possession of my 06 Prius. The 06 was the first model year to even include an aux in jack. I posted about my problem and the solution at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...6-prius-owner-bunch-questions.html#post205090 when I was a newbie.

I tried a ground-loop isolator and it made the sound worse. Thanks for the tip though.

Has anyone purchased (or gotten a quote) for the new OEM parts described in the TSB? The new parts are:

    • Aux Mini Jack 86190-48010 $120.89
    • Wire Harness 86237-33010 $11.66
    • Noise Filter 86516-33020 $58.87

It should be a 5 minute install. I'm guessing they aren't doing these free of charge for out of warranty cars.

EDIT: Added MSRP. I wonder how the new Aux Mini Jack is different from the original?

My local Toyota stealership fixed my 08's issue, just 2 weeks before the 3 year warranty.

BTW, I posted in this thread about a year ago. Since then, I took it in for service, with a copy of the TSB. I asked the service manager to order the parts, but he kept insisting that they had to "diagnose the problem" before they could do anything. That meant leaving the car with them, picking it up again, waiting while they ordered the parts, then dropping the car off again when the parts arrive.

Annoying, but the net result is the fix works fine.

Your experience is the same that I encountered. The first trip took me 2 hours to get my car back, but it looks like they went through a checklist to mark down the car's vitals, which I guess is standard procedure. They ordered the parts on the same day.

I belive it was the next day that I got a call from my local Toyota stealership to tell me the parts were in.

I brought the car back a few days later, but left it with them and took off with my wife in our truck to run some errands. We might have been gone 3 hours and never got a phone call, so we went to check up on it and it was completed. No more noise. And to those there reading this, there was absolutely no charge for anything. Luckily the warranty hadn't run out since it was first purchased. I bought the car used.

I just got my 2008 back today from having this TSB performed. It fixed the problem perfectly. I had the same experience as others. It took two trips to get the problem resolved. Once to "diagnose" and another to install the part. Fortunately my stealership gives free loaner cars, so it wasn't especially inconvenient.

My warranty expires in 2 weeks so I wanted to get it taken care of while it was still free.

I just had my 07 Camry fixed a couple of days ago. Here's a link to the TSB in case someone else needs it.

So just to make sure, I got a bluetooth gateway that gets power from the 12v plug and then plugs into the aux. When I use it there is a high pitched wine (that 'skips', almost), and when I use it with power coming from an extension cord from the house there is no noise.

Is this the problem that this addresses? I have an '06 Prius with a platinum warranty that runs out in '12. Will I have any problems getting this done?

    Thanks all!

Yes, what you describe is exactly the problem I had. The noise was gone once they preformed the TSB.

I use a blackberry bluetooth gateway plugged into the aux port. Before I had the TSB work done I connected a 300 watt 110vac power inverter to the car's 12v plug and then connected a 110vac to 12v power supply to that which I then used to power the gateway. It was ugly and wasteful, but it powered the gateway without the noisy whine.

Mine was out of warranty. Bought a 3.5mm ground loop isolator from eBay. It fixed the problem.

I purchased a Toyota Certified Used Prius (2006) on March 17, 2010. I did not notice an issue with the Aux Jack until July 2010. I thought the issue was with my Motorola Droid X. I discovered this TSB last nite 7/12/11. I have talked to 3 ppl at Toyota and they all claim it will not be fixed because my car is past the 12 month 12,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty my car came with. They stated had I taken the car in prior to it expiring that they would have fixed it for free.

I told them that the dealership should have performed the TSB upgrade prior to selling the car as factory certified used.

A call has been made to the office of the president of Toyota Motor Sales USA and a call back should be received within 24 hrs.

If Toyota knew about this issue and issued a TSB, it shouldn't matter how old my car is or how many miles is on it. Toyota does not seem to care to back up the products they sell.

Is my request for Toyota to fix the Aux Port for free as absurd as they are telling me it is?

Why manufacture a vehicle then refuse to fix it when a known issue is identified? Sheesh!

    Any input would be appreciated!
