Dynamic cruise control is not available on the Lexus. Probably one of the biggest safety features in the AT package of the Prius.

I think you are mixed up with the pre-collision avoidance system, the dynamic cruise control is more like a convenient feature and less so for the safety benefits of the pre-collision avoidance system.

The Radar or "Dynamic" cruise control, along with the related PCS (which goes hand in hand, since it is also radar based), is listed as an available option, for $1,500. Of course, it may not be easy to actually find a car on the lot with this option, but it can theoretically be ordered.

Indeed, you are correct. I overlooked the option.

Not even close. Anyone that has driven the two at from 1/10th to 8/10ths can tell the difference. The Prius does its job well and drives like its price point indicates, as well as the interior quality. Good but not luxurious. The CT has a fantastic interior, better build quality but is smaller. You can swap out interior trim pieces. The dash changes color. Remote Touch is fantastic.

The cars drive nothing alike, the CT is much more fun and lively though pretty much as tepid in regards to acceleration. Lexus will offer F-sport parts to make it sportier.

There is a distinct market for both cars. :cheer2::rockon:

Its no different than something like say a BMW X5 vs X6. Same car in regards to powertrain but executed differently.

You should see some of the cars being traded in or added to for the CT. A few LS types. The luxury market has shifted where smaller and high MPG are seen as luxurious in a nice package. Note Audi A3 sales have been increasing though the car is older.

    Yeah its available. :)

While the CT200h will out-handle a Prius, it is a smaller car. From some of the features you are talking about, this looks like it's targeted for a Scion customer who cares about changeable interior components or cool colors on the instrument panel. From a pure practicality standpoint, IMO it offers little if any advantage over the larger Prius. Believe me, I would have been one of the first to buy one of these had it been equivalent to the Prius in legroom and cargo space. I would happily forgo the parking assist of the AT package if that was the only thing sacrificed. YMMV.

As for the Prius V, I understand they have very limited production and have dropped plans to market it in Japan. I'm assuming that's so they can get it into the U.S. market close to the anticipated August launch date. In today's LA Times, [link omitted due to website policy] the pipeline is nearly empty of Prii, and with demand due to gasoline prices increasing, they expect dealers to be back to the "dealer markup" BS of 2003 and 2008.

Well understand this car is aimed for Europe and targeted to double Lexus sales in Europe. We are fortunate to get it here since we usually miss some models. In Europe this vehicle has the lowest emissions in class and seems to be exceeding sales targets already.

Lexus has shifted to offering more sporting offerings (CT, IS, F-sport, F, LFA, LS sport etc) while still offering core products. The CT is a new direction in regards to the Lexus driving experience and had input from LFA engineers.

I'm not arguing one is better than the other nor will imply the CT seems to be for "Scion owners" as we have heard every thing at the book thrown at Prius owners "lefties, smug etc".

On Clublexus the cars people are trading in for it are a vast, from Benz's to trucks. Locally a GTR was traded in for a CT:eek:

No way a 170" CT and 181" Prius v can ride on the same chassis.

Prius v will be a much larger, roomier car inside. Just because they have the same basic shape does not make them comparable.

CT200h is a compact hybrid 'hot hatch' style of car.

    Prius v is a mini-wagon. Think Mazda5. So, it's Mazda5 (Prius v) vs. Mazda 3 (CT200h).

Go to Mazda to see difference in person.

And no use fuming over a car that 'only' gets 40 MPG (Prius v).

Are you really going to die after pumping in 2 more gallons of gas after 400 miles than the Prius?

How about the millions of drivers pumping in 6 more gallons of gas than your Prius v after 400 miles? That's who you need to worry about. How do you get them from a regular Camry into a Prius v-like car.

Prius v has a noticeable increase in interior room, is heavier, taller and a little wider. There is no free lunch on energy usage.

Personally, I'm a little concerned with that 11.5 second 0 to 60 MPH time.

Just look at PC members here. Some have moved down from S-Classes and Boxsters. Some have kept their own cars as an additional vehicle (presumably because it's paid off and if they already own a vehicle of that calibre from new, chances are, the Prius is "pocket change" to them). The most extreme I can recall was from a Maserati Quattroporte. The Prius attracts buyers from both ends of the market. The CT is obviously stirring up discussions (just look at the discussion here to see the more pragmatic members argue about losing space and not getting a "true" Lexus vehicle for more money and less mpg).

It's more of a "problem" in Canada where PCS/DRCC isn't available as an option on any Lexus model until the RXh w/ Ultra Premium Package at Cdn$70k. I was very surprised (and impressed) that Toyota Canada decided to offer those two items in the Prius.

I was actually referring to a Prius V - the compact car.. not the new Prius v.

Then you should be referring to the vehicle as Prius Five as Toyota moved away from the Roman numerals awhile ago. It was announced at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/82748-my11-prius.html. There was a lot of confusion about what you intended to refer to in this thread...

BTW, per http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm, 2010-2011 Prius (Two thru Five) and 2004-2009 Priuses all are classified as midsized cars. The CT 200h is classified as a compact car.

Great! I love smaller cars. The lateral damper in the CT200h is neat as well. Does it bother me that the CT200h is smaller? Not as long as it serves my needs.

And 40mpg vs 50mpg. That's alright when you consider the CT200h's skid pad pulled a .86g compared to the Prius's .78g. If you don't care about how well your car feels (or if the Prius is sufficient for you) then this wouldn't be a selling point.

Coming from the 05 Prius which has a skid pad of .73g... I can tell you that the CT200h would be a huge improvement. Is it worth the cost? Well no.. hardly any new car is worth the cost, but in a few years it will be less than 30 grand.

Every other Lexus variant of a Toyota has an upgraded engine/transmission.

It looks like the HSD will be the first exception which indicates the HSD design does not scale and cannot be tweaked as easily.

I drive through a skid pad area every day on my way to work ... ;)

Those .08 G's are most likely due to nothing more than the tires .... better wear your flight suit in that 200 so you don't black out pulling those extra .08 G's ....

Is .08 G's worth a 20% sacrifice in fuel economy, a slower 0-60 time, and a far smaller overall car ? ..... I don't think so .... How sporty can it be if it's SLOWER than a freaking Prius ?

People don't buy any type of hybrid for going fast. ;)

nope, it is due to different suspension than Prius... it is also same speed at 17" Prius.
