The Prius v will join the Prius family starting at a $28,500 price point, at least in Japan, according to the Japanese business daily Nikkei. This lines up with what some of our dealer contacts were foreseeing as the entry price here in the US, though there are no hard rumors on specific pricing for the US market. A price in the high-20s would make the Prius v a competitive product in the growing wagon/crossover segment. We also now have insight into another reason the Prius+ won't be making it's way to the US shores: a big-time pricetag. The Prius+, with its lithium-ion battery pack and seating for 7, will be priced around $36,400 when it hits the market in Japan. That price might be more than US buyers are willing to swallow for a Prius wagon. Don't expect to hear any definite pricing for the US market until closer to the Prius v launch toward the end of the summer. So it comes with a noticeable price premium over the regular Prius. But still affordable for the average ex-SUV soccer mom.
Yeah, it's in the neighborhood of a Rav4 and CRV while almost doubling their fuel efficiency in the city and substantially improving it on the highway. Soccer moms should definitely give it a look, even if it does cost a bit more.
I'd still buy it for $3800. We want seating for 7 and a hybrid. So far the only car that fits the bill is the Highlander Hybrid and that is the real reason I believe Toyota is not bringing the Prius+ over to the US.
So about the price of a Prius IV?? (or just a little less than a III SR). I guess it depends on what standard features it has up and over the II as well as how it compares to other compact utes.
converting japanese prices directly into USD? thats just never going to be right, at all. Base Prius G3 in Japan starts at $25k USD. It seems that the Premium is 15% in Japan, compared to normal Prius.
Wow, $8k difference between NiMH and Lithium versions. 3rd row itself won't make it worth it. I wonder what's the fuel efficiency difference between the two.
I assume this means it's optioned beyond a regular Prius II because nobody in the world is going to pay $5k for a slower Prius with worse mileage and only 50% more cargo room. I thus have to conclude it comes with most standard options. Or the Japanese price is incomparable and when it hits US it will be $25k
