Hey Guys, I was talking to a guy at our local Toyota dealer about installing an after-factory Bluetooth setup, he said he can order the parts, and it'll be hooked up parts labor everything for $311 does this sound like a good deal? Anyone had this done? It's apparently the toyota bluetooth module that the car WOULD come with, but mine just doesn't have it. He indicated it would be shown on the screen and everything Just wondering if anyone has done this, or knows what to expect? He said something about the button to turn it on being on the mirror control panel? On my door?? That seems odd. I figured it would be on the bezel. But mine only has 4 buttons, (No nav, or phone or anything) so does anyone know where he means? Thanks!
Not too sure, but I'd imagine parts & labor for around $300 at a dealership isn't bad. At minimum, they'll charge 1 hour, which usually is $80-100 anyway. Have you looked into other options that clip onto the car visor, etc? You can usually get them for quite a bit cheaper, but I'm not sure where/how the wires would run to keep it charged. Still, those can usually be found for around $50 or so, which might be worth a try if you haven't already before spending that much for the factory one.
I have looked into the non-standard options, and a lot of them look really good, but the actual implementation is poor. Having to either plug it into to a power outlet in the car (Both of which are taken, one by my GPS, the other by my cellphone and ipod charger.) or having to replace batteries (which will probably end up being just as expensive considering how much I use my phone) I was really wanting to get it done, but I'm worried it's not going to be like as if it came standard. SO I was wondering if anyone has it installed on their 08 (Or any gen2) and knows how it works, where the buttons for controlling it are, integration into touch screen etc
Bump, I know somebody has to have a gen 2 with bluetooth (from the factory) can they tell me how it's controls work? How it's layed out in the car? etc?
Yeah, that was always one of the things that's turned people off from them - the charging aspect. However, they do sell splitters for the cig lighter that allow you to plug multiple items in at once. It would be nice if there was a quick, simple, cheap way to install a USB port anywhere in the car you wanted. If it's the toyota bluetooth system, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't function as though it was installed during manufacturing of the car. It should be the same system, and they should be able to wire it up to function exactly as it would. Sorry I can't be of any other help, as I've got a Gen 3 and made sure to get that as part of the options when I got the car.
Yeah true, I think I will get it. I'm excited! I've just been plugging my phone into the aux port, which works but it's a pain because I have to unplug my ipod while driving...Which is dangerous as well.
A Parrot would cost you $150 plus $100 - $150 for installation, so I think the OEM setup is preferable.
Best buy has the parrot bluetooth installed for 99 or 150 depending on which model you pick. Not sure if price makes a difference for you or not.
Do you have a link to the unit you're getting installed? I just purchased an '05 Prius and I definitely am considering something along these lines. I currently have a Motorola unit I clip on to visor, but I'd really like for my system to be integrated with the car. Thanks.
