I haven't received anything in the mail from Toyota, but I came home to a message from the dealership that did my last recall service (and were HORRIBLE) saying they wanted to schedule me to come in for another recall on my car. I think I've had everything done that has come my way...most recent was the coolant pump, the pedal, something to do w/the tank/bladder a long long time ago and they replaced my screen when it died and I had 100 miles left on the car under warranty (not a recall issue). I searched the internet and couldn't find anything new. Can anyone shed light?
I'm not aware of any. You can lookup recalls for any car at Home | Safercar -- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). I checked the 04 Prius and found no recent ones.
I just listened to the message again, she said it was a "safety recall". I'm very suspicious. I'd mentioned in my written survey today that they wanted to charge me $500+ to replace the shift knob. I know it makes a clicking sound, read about the piece of warped plastic inside here on PC and have the instructions on how to DIY. Just a little cheaper than $500+. They tried to tell me that my shift knob must be put back into place manually...uh, no, it springs back into place perfectly just as it always has. Who do they think drives the car? Not me, I guess. Gee, I wonder if they want to replace it for free...for my "safety"?
You can also create an account and check for recalls at Toyota Owners - Official Toyota Owners Website. You might be able to skip the account part by using the Check your VIN link at Toyota Recall Information ? 2009-2011 Toyota Recall List. This dealer sounds really sketchy. Perhaps you should steer clear.
Thanks for this. I signed up and appear to be up to date on all the safety recalls. I'll call the dealership on Mon to see what they have to say...not that I will ever go there again, but I am curious about why they called.
Darn, this just cries out for a video 'sting' with a local TV station. Document no recalls Have the car inspected by a reputable mechanic, Then let the dealer tell you how much they wish to rip you off for.
