The UK Toyota website has been updated with full details of their forthcoming hybrid models (see post in International Owners) but also details and some specs of the forthcoming Toyota/Scion IQ EV; Toyota Not sure about the 105km range which is about 60 miles! But the IQ is a city car so maybe this range will cover most journeys the car will take. I do like the 15 minute quick charge facility though.
Thanks for the link. 105km (optimistic Japanese range, though) from a flat battery sounds good. Imagine what a large battery instead of the rear seats could add. If only I could run my iQ on battery for those really short trips instead of starting up the diesel burner.
Small car=Short Range.... That is weak Toyota, really weak. The IQ really needs a champion at Toyota or else it is on track to become a clone of the Smirk car. The "I2" I will dub this effort.
I have a problem parsing your "Small car=Short Range". Did you mean that small cars have short range, so the car would not have any relevant applications? Or that it is too short a range for a small car? Or do you mean that a small car is equal to Short Range and that the language can be simplified by replacing all occurrences of "Small car" with "Short Range"? Parse error on token "=" on line 1. Unable to proceed.
The IQ really is a nimble city car and probably doesn't get to travel more than a dozen miles a day so I guess Toyota have designed the EV version accordingly. If you want to go further get a petrol one and if you want to go further in more comfort, buy a bigger car.
Why the fuss guys? You have stated it for Toyota that their intention was to build a small car with short range and in England that might work out ok. In America this car would be a tough sell, just as the Smirk EV will be a tough sell. Mission accomplished car makers!
Atlanta.. LA... many outside of the USA. 60 miles is a short range, but not unusable. The IQ E would have to be cheaper then the Leaf for it to move with a range that short and the Leaf is pretty cheap after credits. I am looking forward to the Tesla/Toyota EV's. I think they will have 100 or more mile range.
Many days I do not go into double digit miles driven, but a 60mi range would limit the car too much in my area. EVs should really have a 100mi usable range and 120mi usable range would be gold.
I"m bending the rules a little bit but, Toronto. The city itself isn't 30 miles wide but the GTA is just a bit wider I believe and people do commute from outside or the edges of the GTA into Toronto (or even across to the other side of the region).
An EV range should not be large enough to make everyone happy, that just makes for a car people complain is too expensive. EVs of different ranges are needed so that consumers can match their requirements. For me ? 60 mile EV range is PERFECT. I want my PV, and I want that car.
Mr. Weisenheimer to the rescue ! Answers.com - What is the length of Mexico City in miles sorry, I couldn't resist . . . I did get the point . . . and if any city needs to reduce smog with electrics, it's mexico city.
