Ok for the life of me I can't figure out where the 12 volt battery is in my 2010 Prius. I read discussions on here about the 12 volt battery. I have looked every where I possibly can to find it in my car and can't seem to locate it. It isn't under the hood, nor can I find it in the boot near the traction battery. Am I over looking something? Go ahead and laugh and have a good guffaw at my expense. LOL. Hell even I had a bit of a chortle. So anyone? Can you tell me?
should be in your owners manual. not the battery, the location. it's in the right rear fender, there is a little flap in the triangular area of the floor.
The small 12 Volt battery is located under the rear cargo panel behind the rear wheel on the passenger side of the car. Good hunting, enjoy your Prius. Dave
Here it is. This is taken from the left looking to the right. Remove your folding storage area cover, then remove the storage tray. Next take out the small cover panel in the right corner. Then you should see it.
Coincidentally, I looked at the battery for the first time today. It's not any bigger (volume) than the battery on my Sportster. No doubt it will be expensive to replace, since it doesn't look like a standard automotive battery.
If you can plan ahead, the elearnaid kit makes it use a more capable battery Toyota Prius 12 Volt Auxiliary Battery with install kit for 2004 - 10
Most batteries last 3-10 years. It should be tested so it isn't weak and make your charging system work harder than normal.
Thanks for the link to the Optima D51 battery. It looks like a good alternative to the OEM battery. Has anyone installed the Optima D51 in a 2010 or 2011 Prius?
