I have a 2010 prius v with adv. Tech. I noticed that I cannot turn off radar if I want to use regular cruise control sometimes when there is denser traffic. I know that it can be turned off on a Toyota sienna if you press and hold the radar distance button. I've tried with the prius, no luck. Any ideas?
After pressing the button to turn cruise control on, push and hold the stalk forward (the actual cruise stalk that has the on/off button on it). That turns off the radar mode and makes it operate like normal cruise control.
Does Pre-collision system work when not using radar cruise? I have a 2010 prius with adv. Tech. I was just wondering for peace of mind if the pre-collision system still works when you are not using cruise control. Any ideas?
Re: Does Pre-collision system work when not using radar cruise? Yes, just because you turn off the radar cruise control, the unit does not stop emitting and using the radar. It's still activated even when cruise/radar cruise is off in general, so it does not turn off because you choose not to use radar cruise.
Does pre-collision system detect deer or other animals? I have a 2010 prius with adv. Tech. I drive 100 miles a day and it gets really dark around 10 pm. It would be great to know if the precollision system can detect deer or other animals on the road or not.
Constant use of radar When I drive out of state, I drive for about 4 or more hours continuously till I need more gas and for these 4 or 5 hours I never use the brakes because the radar cruise control does all of that. Does this system heat up or is it's life affected with such continuous use?
Re: Constant use of radar First, let me say that I don't know if it heats up or not. Police radar, at least some of the older ones, are continuously on. The newer ones (not laser) are pulsed on by the cops at the last moment to try to out maneuver a radar detector. We all know that the police sure like to keep the radar on, for our traffic safety, of course.
Re: Constant use of radar It is my understanding that the radar is always on whether you're using the cruise control or not. The pre-collision system uses the radar as well.
Re: Does pre-collision system detect deer or other animals? My guess (ex Air Force radar type tech) would be no. The low power of the Prius radar, coupled with the poor radar reflectivity of the deer (no metal), would not be detected.
Re: Does pre-collision system detect deer or other animals? That's why they have antlers, that is where the aluminium foil goes!!
Re: Does pre-collision system detect deer or other animals? How about a crazy man with an axe and a 6-pack of bud lite?
Re: Does pre-collision system detect deer or other animals? The system will alert us to avoid him so that we can give him a ride in our Prius....
Deer have crossed my path seemingly within inches twice without any reaction from the avionics. What's the advantage of the normal cruise control?
It's a paradox. I tried holding the stalk for the active cruise control foreword for a couple of seconds today while driving my Gen III V with the ATP. In spite of numerous tries, the radar cruise control continued to display the bars for the distance to an obstacle and remained active. What am I doing wrong.
I tried the other day also and at first I did not think it would turn off, but I held the stalk forward longer and it did turn off the radar. The DRCC distance blocks went away and the screen was just the rectangle outline with the MPH setting displayed. Might have to hold it forward longer to turn off the radar. I could not select the radar again from the traditional CC I had to turn off all CC and start from the beginning to get the DRCC radar back online.
Once you've set a speed, you can't change from radar cruise to dumb cruise. You have to shut the cruise off and turn it back on then turn off the radar cruise. To reactivate the radar cruise, turn off and on the cruise.
