Since it's horrid to fit a 'maxi-cosy' on the rear seats of my prius2010 (because the seatbelts don't give way once you let them go a bit) I want to install it on the passangersseat in the front... but to do that safely, I have to disable the airbag, and here's the problem... in any other car there is a switch in the glovecompartment, but in the priusIII this doesn't seem to be the case... can anyone tell me how I can disable the front-passengers seat airbag?? thanks
something like that... it's somewhat like a crib for when the child isn't able to sit on his own ... it's possible to fit this thing properly in a car using the seatbelt, but it's necessery to disable the airbag because the child is facing backwards
I don't believe the passenger airbag can be disabled (legally). I know the dealers won't do it. It's much safer for the child to be in the back seat anyway. I think you're just going to have to fight with the rear seatbelt.
in ANY OTHER car I've driven, it was a simple switch in the glove-compartment... and... on the dashboard in front of the passengersseat is a symbol that indicates the airbag is either ON or OFF ... the indicator also shows a 'maxi-cosy' in that indicator to be sure you don't install a maxi-cosy with the airbag ON...
On the European / Israeli model it is possible. Switch is on the side of upper glove compartment. I believe you can see it only with the door open and the you need the key in the FOB to do it.
Hi Chrisis The system automatically detects whether its an adult or a child sitting on the front passenger seat, and disables the front passenger bags if detects a child on the front passenger seat. page 127 of the manual, and info if you need to put a child in the front seat on pages 134-135. good luck
There IS an NHTSA process by which you may request to have such a switch installed. Since Toyota already makes this provision in some markets, it should be possible in the USA as well. Please report back if you are successful.
should have caught that, since we moved here from there not so many years ago... was only dreaming of a Prius back then...
This video from YouTube said the system will automatically detect whether the passenger seat has been occupied, then activate or deactivate passenger side airbag accordingly.
