    That's great news, congratulations!

If your uncle has any interest in doing this sort of work for other Canadians, you should post his contact info here.

I'll check on that... i think he does.

On a side note: does anyone know if its safe to change the transaxle fluid on a 2001 prius with 230,000km on it? My uncle says its risky to change transmission fluid in a car over 200,000km unless its been regularly prior. Is this the same for the prius? Thanks in advance

I'm planning on trying to change out bad cells in my HV battery. How did you know what you were doing did you end up buying anything to help with doing everything. I saw something advertised that shows you how to diy for 79.99 or something like that and I was wondering if it would be a waste of money or if I should buy it?

The Prius transmission is not subject to problems with clean ATF (no pumps, screens, bands, seal problems, ... ). Lab testing suggests replacing the Type IV ATF every 50k km in the Classic Prius. Better late than never.

Don't spend $79.99. All info is available online. It is a serious undertaking, however. Note that the original poster on this thread worked with his uncle, who owns an automotive garage.

Here is an article about overhauling the battery due to terminal corrosion:

Here is a good thread about battery DIY:

If you need a charger, take a look at this:

Hi! Just joined! I'm working on my dead Prius Gen 1. I know the hybrid battery pack is dead...I've tested all 38 cells and 1/2 of them are 5V or less. I've purchased 11 good cells, each measuring 7.6V. I have removed the whole battery assembly, unscrewed all 4 nuts & screws for each cell, but can't get the cells out to replace them. How do you get them out of the pack?
