yesterday my odometer said 299,999, today it shows 32,888 miles.

I found a guy on ebay selling a used odometer, got it for $68 shipped to my door. And the best part is it had 32,888 miles. I had to wait until yesterday for my car to actually have 332,800 and then changed it out. So my cars actual mileage and the new odometer are less than 100 miles out. Should be easy to prove my mileage to the tax man now. I have pictures of the swap i'll try to upload them after i get through typing this.

UPDATE: 326000 Ok guys and gals im back. Had front bumper, condenser, and radiator along with support replaced. Had a little scared on my way to work after picking her up. Drove about 85 miles and triangle comes on and goes off, now im nervous did it about twice then temp gauge came on and went off, pulled over checked overflow tube all good, drove a little more same thing, had co worker meet me lost out on days pay, was able to drive home finally after waiting about a little while in gas station. Next day decide to check radiator nothing in tube, drive to auto body, they ended up putting over a half a gallon of antifreeze. Drove her about 1200 miles in two days every thing is good. 350,000 here I come.

 

Sorry if I am mentioning the obvious, but the radiator level should be checked over the next week to check for a leak. Kind of amazing that the shop would forget to add fluid.

 

That is awesome. I will have to keep that in mind in case I run into the same problem.

Man, that would have been a sad way for this car to end.

 

Be warned that when you swap the CM (Combination Meter) to another car, or install a new board, you should perform the inclinometer calibration. This will ensure your fuel gauge remains accurate.

 

This is the problem when i arrived at the shop the worker turned on the car and added the antifreeze, however he did not know the car ice was off, and when i told him the ice was off, he told me the car was on. So it is obvious shops in general dont know how priuses work. In essence I found out how to make engine run in test mode, and the problem was solved. HERE IT IS: ig on not running, press gas twice, put in neutral press gas twice, put in park press gas twice, then turn on, engine should stay on, when finished turn off car, start car and u are back to normal.

 

Hi Folks, I am starting over again with mileage. I had the odometer replaced by my local Toyota dealer because I really need to know when to change my oil/filter and rotate my tires. I now have just over 5000 reading on the odometer. That job was $800, my biggest repair to date. Does this mean that I get kicked out of the 299,999 club? I am not expecting to have to buy another odometer, but you never know. I have read on here that you are supposed to change the transaxle fluid every 60,000 miles? I have had the car since 55,000 and didn't know I needed to check or change it, so haven't. Do I have to stand in a corner for that, lol? I guess I'll make that my next thing to do.

 

UPDATE 331000 I would change it, If u do it urself ur are looking at $35.00 for the oil, I changed mine at 125000 and 235000 I will change it again at 350000.

 

I do not know that this applies to Prius or not but doing a transmission fluid change after a very long interval can actually hurt the transmission on non hybrid cars.

My mechanic has a same opinion too.
As I said I do not know weather the same things applies to Prius transmission and its fluid. But I would suggest that you do a thorough research to find out.

I still can't grasp why there would be a software limit at some number below what the maximum is that the display can show. Why would it not simply run up to 999 999 miles? Why would they set it to stop counting at 299 999 miles?

As for putting a lot of miles (or km ) on a car... we put on between 60 000 and 80 000 km per year (50 000 miles) and my commute is about 12 miles one-way. We just love traveling and every weekend always find ourselves on the road more than anything, exploring and having fun. People always look at me and scratch their head when they hear how much we drive, but I look at them and scratch my head trying to understand how they just don't go anywhere or do anything!

There is a great resource on this group who goes by the name pEEf in CA. He can Repair and/or reset the ODO for us at a reasonable cost.

Since our Tranny is a much simpler device than the Automatic Trannies that mechanics are used to, you need not be concerned with problems being caused by putting new ATF in a high mileage Prius tranny. Just have your dealer do a drain and refill. It should not cost much more than $100. You may want to do it again after a short interval to further dilute the mess left after 300k miles.

Do us all a favor and ask the mechanic to capture a few ounces of the used ATF in a clean poly bottle (you'll have to supply it) and send it in to R&G labs for an analysis (normal plus viscosity index). They will charge about $30. Report the results back here so that we can see what happens in 300k miles to the ATF.

That's a great idea. This would really be a pioneering move on the Prius front. I doubt it's ever been done before. I'm curious the difference between the Variable Trans. and a standard auto trans in standard cars.
