Should i buy a 2010 prius? or other cars...

    Hi Guys,

    I am looking for a safe second hand car and fuel efficient as well. I am looking at a 2010 camry hybrid and a 2009 prius hybrid which is available second hand here (Australia). I do like the 2010 prius but there is no second hand for sale at the moment... Should i wait for 2010 second to become available or just buy one of the above?

    Currently I owned a 2008 Yaris and a 1998 camry. I have just checked the crash test of these cars a week ago and i am very scared each time i drive, i feel im in a death trap!!

    Please please advice me,

    The answers you get on this forum are going to be somewhat biased.

    How many miles (or kilometers) do you drive a year?
    What's your budget?
    Have you driven a G2 or a G3 (G3 is the third Gen Prius, or 2010 and 2011)?

    Personally....I'd lean towards a VERY GENTLY used 09 Prius, or wait untill more G3s become available....but that's me.

    we have 08 camry hybrid and prius. both wonderful cars, but very different. either would be a good choice. no idea on crash ratings. all the best!

    I drive 25000 km a year. currently costing me nearly 3k in fuel with my 1998 camry a year.
    My budget is enough to buy one of these hybrid.
    No i have not driven any of these hybrids, Hows the driving "feel" between the 09 and 2010 prius? I think I should test drive them soon.
    Im thinking to get a 2009 prius now then get the 2010 a few years later?

    I would feel safer in any of the priuses then the cars I'm currently driving.

    My doubt about generation 2 is that I would have to replace the belts.. While in 3rd gen prius there is no belt to replace at all? Hence I'm thinking to wait for more gen 3 to become available as second hand.


    I have saved up enough money and ready to splash them, just need to pull the trigger. Cant afford brand new..
    Im in 2 minds.. 2009 or 2010.. someone please keep me sane..

    2010 prius looks much nicer then 2009.. I might just wait for the 2010 prius like a guy without his daily dose of dope.

    that's a strange reason NOT to buy a particular car.
    IIRC, belt failure is a very uncommon problem in G2 Prius.

    now, if you're worried about having to change out the HID head lights (or any other common issue discussed on this web site)...that's a reason not to buy a particular model.

    that said, these cars are bullet-proof. just change the oil and drive.
    if you want 50mpg, then get one. otherwise, stick w/ what you have.
