Well, my bride has finally about had it with feeding gas to her Camry and has expressed interest in a Prius. I'm inclined to buy her one, if only to distract her from trying to get hold of my 2008. Gen IIs in good shape and low mileage seem to be only about $5000 less here than a base 2011. Seems likely the Gen III might be a better deal. Has anyone here owned one of each, and if so, what do you or don't you like better about your Gen III?
We have a 09 and a 10. I like the 10 better as it is more powerful and gets better mileage, like 4 to 5 more miles per gallon. To me it also has a nicer, more updated dash design with more mileage stats and better steering wheel dash controls. The new seats are more confortable. Automatic locks. The exterior is more aerodynamic and I think sportier. I think if you get a new one you will get 2 years free service too. Also the new ones have a 10,000 mile oil change interval as they use synthetic oil. Of course you will have to test one as everyone is different. Any specific questions, please reply. Best regards !
We have both a Gen II that I drive and a Gen III that my wife drives. I like the Gen III better, except for the data display. The data seems much better organized on the Gen II MFD.
had the gen 2 for 4 years and now own the gen 3 since 4 months. i'd never go back to gen 2. because of the increased power the gen 3 engine does not howl that loud when accelerating. its a much more pleasent ride. due to better recuperating the gen 3 drives more electrically.
I have a 2005 and a 2010. How the 2005 is better: Brakes are silent. No rattles in interior. Never ran rough when starting. How the 2010 is better: More power. I really like Power Mode I really like sat radio I really like nav, leather seats, sunroof, leather steering wheel. Looks a bit better.
Have an 08 and now traded in my husbands junky cobalt for a new 10. Never had any issues with the 08 ant there are things I like better on each car. Hoping the 10 will be just as reliable. Too soon to tell.
What I Like better about Gen II (2007): Storage space (although some things are specific to the trimline you choose) Unique design Interior quality Fit and finish What I like better about the Gen III (2010): Display Exterior color options Availability of bells/whistles MPG (increased a bit over the Gen II because I drive mostly highway miles)
Basically the 2nd gen is a smaller car with smaller engine and built for smaller people (failure to fully utilize front cabin space provided). 3rd gen a much better car overall.
