The Prius V's are scarce around my part of the world but today I have a choice between the Nav package (Red with Bisque) and the tech package (Pearl with dark gray). My favorite color is silver but white is my next favorite. I like Red but I'd like it better if I didn't live in the country where all the dirt lives...I've called every Toyota dealership in Northern California and these two are the best options and they happen to be the closest dealership to me. Is the tech package worth the extra money? I have an appointment in 6 hours and can't decide. HELP!!
You should know the Tech Package would include the NAV Package, and would be more expensive by a few thousand $. To me the added Tech Features might not be used all the time, but many people in the forum like the features. Nav is nice because of the Backup camera.
If you like silver, you should like the blizzard pearl, they are actually kind of close in tone, and the pearl has an elegant shimmery effect. The radar cruise and related PCS in the AT package are great. I'll never buy another car without them.
Yeah, if you can afford it and they have it there get the tech package. The radar cruise control, if you drive roadtrips or on the highway often, is great. As for color, I've got Blizzard Pearl, and it's one of the best colors I've had. Even better than a pearl white I had on a Acura years ago...
If you can swing it, I recommend the advanced tech package as well. The radar cruise control, and lake keeper assistant are great on long trips. See my recent write-up here: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/90621-first-road-trip-impressions.html
Are they MY 10 or 11? Anyhow I am bias I have a 2011 V with the APT in Blizzard Pearl with a Bisque interior. I would say buy what makes you happy but I would get the V/Five with the ATP again tomorrow. The Blizzard Pearl is awesome color although it gets dirty quickly it does not hide the dirt like my last silver car did. Check out the thread are you happy with your package V. If the Pearl has the grey interior I would get that one I would rather have gotten Grey than Bisque.
As noted above, if you can afford it comfortably, then get ATP. Check out recent thread and personal account of how ATP saved a member's life: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii.../69375-pre-collision-system-activation-2.html (read maomao post!!) Is that enough motivation for you to get ATP?! Either way, NAVI is great because, in addition to rearview camera, you also get USB connection (great for Ipod/Iphones) and phone book transfers (with speed dial = make call while driving). For actual navigation, it is OK, a bit outdated too quickly...but that is why i have a Garmin as backup.
I'd get the tech package. It's very useful, though they might not be used all the time. I like the LKA (lane keep assist) that you see in the Mercedes commercials.
They are both 2011 models. What a story about the AT saving a life! I know the Nav package is included in the AT package. Hoping for seat heaters too. I'm going for the V because of the lights and wheels. I've never used any of my sunroofs so that isn't a problem. (Is the solar roof more than a gimmick?) I live rurally and night driving was near impossible in my old Subaru. Now I'm used to BMW lights and don't want to limit myself to daytime driving again. Besides, two of my kids are driving Priis (2004 and 2006) and Mom should have a little better one, right? The white one arrived at the dealer yesterday and they are getting it ready for me to see it later today. I've been waiting for a more comfortable driver's seat. Hoping the seat adjusts the way I want it to. Gen II's seats killed my bad knee from lack of support.
I actually opted for just the Nav package on my V. Tested both and determined that I would probably never use the lane assist or auto park functions. The adaptive crusie control did intrigue me, but decided the nav was all i really would use often. As for comfortable seats, the Prius is not very comfortable (as compared to my other cars). But it can be more tolerable by pumping up the driver seat to be higher, thus providing more support to your legs. Also, adding full lumbar support also helps. I also went for the heated seats, after having them in other cars, i could not purchase a car without them.
I didn't have heated seats before and thought they were fluff. Now I use them rather regularly as they heat me without noticeably affecting my FE.
Lol, yes I thought they were weird when i first got them on another car...And now would not purchase a car without them. They really help in the cold ohio mornings until the car warms up.
As any ATP owners will tell you, get the tech pack if you can afford it. I read this article a few months ago and I find it to be true. Car Buyers Rank Entertainment Over Safety The Prius Five/ATP is the safest Prius out yet it is the fewest sold due to cost. The chances of you using the navigation, bluetooth, reverse camera are far greater than you using lane keep assist, radar cruise, and pre-collision system. I bet if you ask anyone who survived a fatal frontal crash that if they would spend $5,000 to bring their loved ones back to life they would immediately say who do I make the check out to? People have a notion to think that accidents will not happen to them. They can make better use of that $5000 the ATP would cost toward something they really need right now.
I am so regret I do not get my Prius V with ATP to show it off to my friends, but I am glad I do not have to pay for it. Driving in Cambodia is like a battle, surviving of the fitness, and so many stops with only short distance drive. It really kills my mpg (31mpg, on average 8mph).
I'm home just after 11:00 PM. They had the red one sold by the time we got there so the Blizzard White with the tech package is sitting in my driveway tonight. Woo! Still mourning the silver a little but I'll get over it.
Welcome to the club! Hunker down with your manual there is allot of cool stuff to get smart on. Check your tire pressures mine were all higher than the recommended 33psi front and 32psi rear. They ranged from 35-37psi currently I have them set to 40psi. Most people here keep them on the high side but below the max psi on the side wall others go above that. There are plenty of tire pressure threads around, but most deal with the 15" wheels on most Gen. 2's and Gen. 3's. Could I ask what tires you do have on you car? I have the Bridgestone Turenza's on mine there was another V with Michelin LLR tires I think would have preferred the Michelin's. Enjoy your new ride!
