Hi I am new and have a few questions. I took a test drive in a III today and all I can say, is I am shocked on how every thing works and runs so smoothly. What are the differences between the III and the IV? Does Both come with the sun roof and solar panels? Would the IV be a better buy? Thanks
You can get the sun roof solar panel with a III or a IV but it's an option package. This page will be invaluable to you: Toyota Prius Hybrid - 2011 Models: Prius Two, Prius Three, Prius Four, Prius Five Look at the interior, exterior etc. Big differences between a III and IV like leather, heated seats, auto dimming mirror etc.
Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota might be easier to read. Keep in mind the prices are higher now and Toyota has moved away from the Roman numeral model designations to spelling out the numbers.
Buy the highest level that you can afford comfortably. It is worth it, whether it be a II or III or IV or V.
Leather Seat Surfaces Synthetic Leather Door Trim Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel Heated Front Seats Power Driver's Lumbar Support Water-Repellent Front Side Window Glass Plasmacluster Ionizer Filter Automatic Dimming Mirror Homelink Integrated Garage Door Opener 3-Dr Smart Key System They're both available with the Solar Roof Package which adds DVD-Based Voice Activated Navigation System, Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof, Solar Panel Ventilation System and Remote Air Conditioning System. Which one is a better buy depends on what you want and how much you can afford. Do you want the stuff listed in the list above? If you just wanted leather, you can easily get an aftermarket set from Katzkin or Classico (sp?). Note that most people find the 3-dr SKS very convenient over just the driver's door on the Prius Three.
I have a Prius III, and of the items listed above, I was able to add the following to my car for under $750: Leather Seat Surfaces - $390 (Clazzio) Heated Front Seats - $188 (Installed) Automatic Dimming Mirror - $135 (installed) Homelink Integrated Garage Door Opener (included in Homelink Mirror) Leather wrapped steering wheels and door panels are available, and someone on here has already broken the code to adding the 3 door SKS, so if you're the DIY type and don't need all the goodies included in the IV, you could save some money and add them yourself... Per USAA Pricing: 2011 Prius IV w/Solar: $29,681 2011 Prius III w/Solar: $26,594 You can buy a lot of accessories and/or gas with the $3087 saving you'd have purchasing a III instead of a IV...
Here's a thread talking about it. Basically if there is a nasty funk in your car, hit the button, it runs a bit and it can help in removing the funk.
