Are you kidding? The EROI for a gallon of gas varies a LOT depending on where you got it from. Just like the amount of pollution it takes to generate one 1kWh can vary a LOT depending on how it was generated.

SageBrush- Did you see Consumer Reports recent April Auto issue Volt article? Do you think CR misused the EPA calc, when they said that the CR measurement of 2 miles per KWhr equates to 65 MPGe by EPA methodology? I am thinking thats <15 MPGe by a coal equivalents calc, pro-rated via weight of coal burned over weight of gasoline burned in a 2006 Prius getting 46 MPG.

Here's someone quoting this academic study as proof without commenting on the assumptions made.

quote: John DeCicco, a faculty fellow at the University of Michigan's Energy Institute, has calculated that a Toyota Prius rivals battery plug-ins such as the Leaf and Volt in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. "A Prius technology is clearly a more cost-effective way of reducing greenhouse gases than electrification," DeCicco said. "It's difficult to see how these selective subsidies are justified. And when you factor in smog-forming pollutants from power plants on a national level, the Prius is actually cleaner than the Volt and Leaf."

What assumptions? Do you think they are incorrect?
