I'm catching up on a few years paperwork and was reviewing my extra-care coverage for the 2010 Prius I bought 12 months ago. Then I spent the next two hours reading really long threads here. Take a break: get a stiff drink: and dive back in. :plane:

Let's side step the discussion on good idea or not: It's a comfort thing. I've bought them twice out of 8 or 9 new cars lifetime and they both 'saved' me money. I like the word luck better. Sometimes I don't feel 'lucky'.

My contract shows that I bought the 'Gold' coverage. I was 'assured' it was bumper to bumper coverage save obvious wear items like tires. However Shortly after leaving the dealer with my new Prius ( had a 2005 before this one ) I discovered the dealership is ..... bent. Badly. Dishonest? Ehhhhh... Sleazy? Yes. Have said so repeatedly in print and happy to back it up should they wish to file slander suit. Public opinion on boards seems to agree by vast majority. Thus I thought to check the coverage of my 'bumper to bumper' plan....

My research today shows that Gold coverage leaves a great many parts and sub-systems out. Many sound expensive  It appears the difference in cost between Gold and Platinum is about $500....

SO: I can't go to that dealership to inquire about this. I plan to go to the Toyota dealer near my old workplace, where I've had all of my work done and bought a 2 or 3 new cars over 20 years, but wished PC's opinion here first.

Does anybody have experience with going to another Toyota dealer and being able to upgrade their extended warranty with them vs the orig dealer? Having paid the vast bulk of the money for the warranty i can virtually guarantee myself that parts covered by the platinum but not the gold plan will consider going bad a few years down the road.

    Thank You for all thoughts.

OK. Thanks for making that clear. I'm not one to dicker over price. ( dealers seem to like me for some reason.. ) but your comment makes sense. Appreciate it.
