Which windows are tinted if you get the factory tint option form toyota? It seems (to me) that $270 for the factory option would be cheaper than having a tint shop do it.

I put my name on the list for a 2006 Prius today and asked the dealer about the tint option. He told me that was done at the dealership. Was he uninformed, or are there two tint choices?

I have tint installed from Southeast Region Toyota, which is installed at port in Jackonville, FL before delivery to dealer.

9 of the 11 windows are tinted:
4 Driver side windows (2 big, 2 small)
4 Passenger side windows (2 big, 2 small)
    Upper Rear window.

Window below the spoiler and the front window are not tinted.

Each tinted window has a little sticker that says: Digifilm 32% Installed by Southeast Toyota 07/2005 Complies with Section 32.5 C-2

Thanks for the info. How does the tint look? Is it very dark?

"stylish" dark, legal dark. You can still see in some. From the inside, I think it looks a little 'grainy' in certain light. I also consider it a slight brownish hue vs grey or blue.

It is no where near as dark as what you see on the car on the prius web site. http://www.toyota.com/prius/

If you want to compare, there might be someplace where you can compare the 32% number against other shades of tint.

I've got a photo of it here someplace, let me see...

Perfect! That is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks a bunch!

Is that the matrix/corolla bumper protector on your back bumper?

Its the $158 Rear Bumper Protector option from SouthEast Toyota.
    The window Tint was $259

Might be cheaper elsewhere, but I added to car (and the mudguards too) when ordered from the dealer, cause I just wind up not adding these things afterwards. Just too lazy.

that's a steep price for tint.

i got mine done for $160ish- i'd have to look to give you the exact number. it was an inside job but his regular price wasn't that high.

It's not *just* a steep price, it is a SE Toyota Distributor steep price. I only pay to be exploited by the best.

It is a little high from what I can tell be calling a few local tinters (~$200). However, the people on the tintdude forum seem to think toyo does a very good and I don't have to mess with getting someone to pick me up/drop me off.

My only concern might be if Toyota uses a metalized film. I specifically got ceramic (Formula One Pinnacle) so that RF signals would not be affected. (yes, I know the GPS is in the dash, but what about wardriving?! :).

A question I have about tinting is, does all tinting cause visual artifacts when viewed from polarized sunglasses? Because I think those spots you see are pretty ugly and I'd like to avoid them.

I live in the SF bay area. I had my windows tinted in Oakland at Professional Film Installations (510) 839-2430. Jim Oakes is the owner and does excellent work...this is the 7th car I've had him tinted! I had the passenger front windows tinted light ON35 and all the rest 1 under the darkest ON20. He even applied a lighter tint on the bottom back small window to match the top window. He charged me $240. for all and $190. if he didn't tint the front. The tint did not effect the Navigation system at all. Peace
