Need some help... Bought my mud flaps early in March from Steve at ToyotaTown ($50 +$9 shipping Canadian, $44 US on my VISA bill). Did not get my Prius until last Wednesday, ... can't find the instruction sheet...I've got all of the hardware, but need some advice on where new holes are required, and which fasteners and clip nuts go with each.. A copy of the instructions would be great, but a description would work fine.

    Mine were recieved and installed...

I uses the VFAQ install instructions, though the ones included were adequate if not so clearly written.

Take note that the bottom hole on the rear flaps requires a different (much smaller) size drill bit than all the others, I skipped over that bold face note in the install instructions b/c I was getting cocky b/c it was going along so easily and smoothly. It wasn't a big deal, I just drilled another, smaller hole through a different spot in the flap and body near the original and it worked and looks fine.

Total install time for me was just under 1 hour. It will be interesting to see how my mpg and spray patterns are affected.

    Spash gurads

Thanks for telling me the group buy didn't go down, i will try to get them on my own. I was looking at how the marks from the debris from the tires go pretty high on the front fenders and was woundering is anybody has already installed the spash guards notice any difference? Is anybody unhappy with thses guards, do they change the looks of the car at all? I usually always install splash guards first thing on any new car that i buy but after looking at my Prius I wounder if they are really necessary? Also most people said that shiiping was $8-$10, when i tried to order online the cost was $22 aprox. I assume it's because i live on the east coast? Does anybody know any Toyota dealers in the eastern part of Canada that i can order these from if i deciede to get them? Thanks a lot for all your info!!!!

    Re: Spash gurads

I was pretty skeptical, but I like them, still get great gas mileage and have no complaints.

The spray that hits up high on the fender is not stopped, but the largest quantity that sprays back is...very little gets on the door panel now.

When you apply yours be sure to seat the edge that overlaps just outside the fender as tightly as possible. I've started a collection of tiny gravel b/w that edge and the fender.

mud guards installed...looks good...took the parts list and instructions to local toyota dealer parts dept and told them if anybody else needs them, you get them in Canada...they were clueless...i had a very short phillips screwdriver for install, and the metal is soft enough that drilling wasnt necessary, the screw tapped right into the metal and clips with no problem...didnt have to take back tires off, given the screwdriver was short enough...took about 30 minutes...really enhances the look...

Dealt with Steve Jones of Langley Toyotatown (www.toyota-parts.ca) on the mud flaps yesterday. After I placed an internet order for them, he called me to let me know it went through OK, and gave me the UPS tracking number. Superior service so far. Total for flaps and shipping was $52.00 U.S. dollars. Strongly recommended.

Put mine up 2 weeks ago, and while the car is jacked up, rotated my tires. About a 60 minute job with a cheapie hydroluic jack from Pep Boys. They look great to me though my wife says she can barely see them....hmm, what does she know!? :)

Got my Prius mudflaps from ebay...$42 shipped, about the same price.

I installed my mud guards yesterday. The instructions were clear and it wasn't difficult. I wonder if anyone else thought it odd that the rear guards have mounting holes only on the edge, nothing for the part flapping about toward the inside of the underbody? Also, I used a 5/32" bit instead of the directed 1/4" on the upper rear holes. I didn't see any reason to make it bigger than the screw! I also had to determine the bit size for the lower hole, as I don't have a 2.5mm bit and they didn't give the 'English' equivilent. I probably would if Ronald Reagan hadn't killed the metric conversion program, leaving us 1 of only 3 countries so stupid as to stick with the inch - foot - yard, ounce - cup - pint - quart, etc systems.

I took the flaps along to the 15,000 mile service (OK, 16,400 because I've been busy moving) and the dealer's service guy installed them for $12.50 labor over the cost of the rest of the service. A coupon made the service reasonable in the first place, so it's all good.

What wasn't good was the lack of leftover oil from my gallon of Amsoil, but that's for another thread...

i'm just surprised that to this date they're still mostly ordered from canada (got mine from there too). i saw some U.S. sites offering them but for twice the price of the ones from canada. one would think toyota u.s.a. would offer them by now. :?

Has anyone mentioned that Coastaltech has mudflaps?

I don't recall seeing any discussion of that in this forum.

I got my mudguards from Eddie at Metro Toyota.
It came with easy to follow instruction sheet. It took about an hour to install all four.

I ordered side mouldings and front end mask from him also but that has not shipped yet. The side mouldings are color matched and made to order.
