I am a gadget nut, so I am in heaven with my "V" and radar goodies! My Prius owner friend has a 2010 IV, and says next purchase he will go the full ticket.

Very happy with my Prius 2010 Package V with Navigation w/o AT shipped to Phnom Penh Cambodia. On my second tank of gas now, and I hope I would learn more when time goes by.

Problem is where can I get filter and oil change in Cambodia......Many garages don't carry the parts here.

Would like to know if there is any Cambodian Prius owner in here?

The V W/ATP is the ultimate in terms of fuel economy and cost of latest technology. Coming from Germany luxury costing 5-7 times as much, some of the ATP features are not available at any cost and if they were the price would be over double what the ATP cost. I recall owning a Gen II with back up cam. Really cool at the time. Soon all US vehicles will be equiped this way.

    Consider ourselves early adopters.

5-7 times as much? Which particular German cars were you driving that cost $175,000-$245,000?

What features aren't available at any cost?

Not to sound like I'm picking on you, but we have to be realistic here. Yes the Prius Five with the ATP has a lot of neat features, but none of them are "not available at any price", nor is it that huge a savings over other cars with those features. The Prius with STP is not a cheap car...its $35,000.

Although i agree with you somewhat, to get the stuff on ATP, you need to spend probably at least $45,000+...in most cases, you need to spend around $48k for a top end HS250h to get ATP stuff. The only question mark is how much the Lexus CT200h costs with those ATP option (along with LED headlights)...it may be slightly under $45k, but definitely above $40k. So, as of right now, the Prius V ATP offers a savings of at least $10,000.

Besides Lexus, i am not sure how much the Germans cost with those features. Audi with ATP +/- LED headlights would surely cost more than $50k (i think). BMW? I don't think that 3 series offer these stuff. You need at least top end 5-series (have not researched them)...but definitely 7-series. Porsche? None i think. Mercedes do offer ATP-like stuff, but definitely not on their C-class (which price at around $48k top)...E-class has it i think but only on their top option cars, which should easily crest $55k.

As for Americans, Lincolns don't have it yet...but Ford does have a cool self-parking feature...but no full feature ATP. GM/Caddy...nope. Acura has a few features of ATP, but not LKA nor self parking...and that is only avail on their top Acura RL, around $50k+.

In all, the Prius V ATP is indeed a bargain for what it is, even at $35k...by a wide margin, unless you think $10k+ is not a lot of money. And note that these ATP features do indeed work...and do decrease accidents.

If I were in Cambodia, I would want my dealer to take care of everything, but I know it's more expensive.

Oh its not that its not a good value at $35k, but surely the features are available for far less than 5-7 times what a Prius Five with ATP costs.

Lets break down what features we're really talking about here:

    Radar cruise
    Pre-collision system
    Lane Keep Assist
    Auto-parking

On the Lexus the features will be available on the CT for probably $5,000 more than the Prius.

You can get those features on an Infiniti G37 for about $9k more (no LKA, but the PCS and intelligent cruise). But you also get a excellent performing sports sedan for that $9k too.

You can get a BMW 3 with laser cruise for about what a Prius V with ATP costs, because they have non=package options pricing.

One of my previous purchases was a S65 with distronic, parktronic, Nav, etc. Although the car retailed at 160k+ voice recognition was non existent and certainly not up to the refinement of even the Toyota Prius. Park assist could not be had from Mercedes. Start at the B line (10k) up to the mighty Mclauren or SLR Gull wing (1 Mil+) . Try and take a stripped III Gen Prius and add any of these features via individual parts and then truly you would appreciate the value. This happens considerably on the MBZ boards where guys spend 2-3k retrofitting say factory Nav. Its all relative but its easy to understand and properly value the technology inherent in an ATP packaged Prius.
    Hope this helps!

The Lexus LS460. The Ford Explorer. The Lincoln MKS. The Lincoln MKT. In fact on the Lincoln the option is only $535!

I would hope you felt that your S65 had other attributes you appreciated that set it apart from a Prius...otherwise it certainly was money wasted.

If electrical gadgets are what you're looking for...I've found Mercedes vehicles seem to lack in the tech department. They pioneered a lot of these technologies (distronic, keyless go) but the whole packages overall are lacking. Their nav is terrible IMHO for instance.

The idea that pure dollars spent should equal you have every feature found in any car for a lesser price is a fallacy. Your S65 lacked some features a Prius with ATP may have specifically...a Lamborghini would cost specifically more and have less technical features...but does that mean its a lesser car? If you think so then the attributes of the car are lost on you...

An AMG Mercedes is about power, handling, a fine hand built machine. Its not something you buy wanting electrical gizmos.

You can't say that the G37 also gets you a good sports car...i can easily say that the Prius gets you an excellent mileage car, esp. in this day and age of rapidly rising gas prices. Two different cars...can't compare...we're just talking about ATP and what we can get from other manufacturers. I did not know that G37 can park itself..and as you stated, no LKA. So, although $9k more, you're still not getting the whole package, which is what we're talking about!

CT200h from most reviews do NOT have LEDs nor ATP (nor mark levinson)...and it is already costing around $35-38k at least. And the way Lexus has it most of the time, to get ATP and LEDs, you probably have to get all the other packages, including NAVI, Mark Levinson, etc, which should easily push it past $40k. Yes, my Prius does not have ML system, but realistically, we should talk about how we can get these cars with ATP...and unfortunately, most manufacturers bundle all these high end stuff together. And if you do order your car, then it will cost you the haggling power when buying your car.

And good luck finding a 3-series with just laser cruise for $35k!! Not many dealers will just order this. In addition, does it really have laser cruise and not RADAR??!! I have laser on my Sienna...it can't hold a candle to radar cruise! Again, even if it has radar cruise, you're not getting the rest of ATP package...so, invalid comparison! In fact, i did not realize that you can realistically get a BMW 3-series for under $35k, much less one with laser cruise!

I can say it gets you a very good small sports sedan absolutely. Have you driven one?

Its radar cruise, don't know why I typed laser. You'd have to special order it, but you could absolutely get one like that if you were willing to wait.

Not to belabor the point, I purchased the AMG for completely different reasons and at the time suited me perfectly. My friend, as mentioned, I rode innovation with German manufactures for many years- Keyless go, lighted side mirrors, Panoramic sunroof, early V12, early reclining rear seats, etc. I could have chosen any of the vehicles suggested yet after considering and discounting them all my Prius, pound for pound was the best value.

Well, we were literally $200 away from getting one! Long story. But you miss my point! I was not saying that it is not a sports car...you need to read my post more carefully.

So you can get a 328i with radar for under $35k?! Wow.

We Love our Prius V with the ATP, although I agree that parking assistance just gimmic and the USB is too slow to be of much use. Fortunately the radar cruise control and lane keep assistance make up for the USB and parking assistance shortcomings and the heated seats and lumbar support are delightful. I have yet to need the fog lights, although the LED headlights have been great, once we got them aimed just a little higher than the default set point. I'm a gadget nut, so ours is also equipped with a scan gauge II that supplies additional data. If the extra cost of the gadgets fits your budget and you enjoy the technology, the Prius V can provide entertainment as you drive. I wish the Toyota lawyers would allow owners to sign a release that protects them from liability and unblock all of the Navigation features for the front seat passenger when the car is moving.

No I got your point. The Prius has a lot of technology for the money, no disputing that, my point was simply that all the technology can be bought on other cars, and not for "5-7 times" what a loaded Prius costs.

Yep, you're right that you'd have to special order it and wait for it, but BMWs can be had pretty much however you want if you're willing to order and wait.

I believe you are correct, but cannot say for absolute sure...

4X the cost? What do you think a Lexus LS costs?!?

$75,000, thats what an LS with the ATP costs. Remember...the Prius 5 with ATP is a $35,000 car. 4x that cost is $140,000. Even a fully loaded LS600hl with every option available is only $129k.

Value is a relative thing. Is the Prius a better value than a Lexus LS? Is a Seiko a better value than a Raymond Weil watch? When you compare it to its competition the LS is a pretty good value.
