ScanGaugeII work on 2010?

Today I called AutoZone and they will ship me a new one, that will take about a week. I can take the defective one back to a local store for a full refund.

I decided to take the unit back to AutoZone and purchase a new unit from a store that is listed on the Scan Gauge web site that is about 30 minutes from my house. I called and verified they had one in stock. I drove out to pick it up and asked if I could do a visual inspection before I bought it.

This is what I found.



The display was cracked. I think I might give up on this.

 

Maybe if you keep taking them back and getting new ones, sooner or later you will get an undamaged one. The ones you have had may be from the same box and were damaged in shipment? I think you can still order online from ScanGauge using the link from Priuschat. It would be worth the trouble, to me anyway, because it provides a lot of useful information, RPM, temperatures, throttle position, etc.

 

I really have only had one Scan Gauge II unit. It had both a faulty cable and the front was scratched. This was from AutoZone.

The second unit I opened the box before I paid for it. This was from a place called Stylin Trucks in Cleveland OH. The LCD was cracked. So I did not purchase it. They are going to get more units in on Thursday.

 

I just called Scan Gauge and was told she will take note of my issues with the faulty units. There was nothing they could do.

 

This will be my last post regarding Scan Gauge II. I just sent them the following email.

I sent an email 24 hours ago to all your departments and never heard back. I suggest that you no longer add that piece of paper included with the unit that claims if you are having issues email '[email protected]' for help. I also suggest that if someone has two defective units that you apologize for the inconvenience. Here is an example:

“We at Linear Logic strive for the best customers service and a quality product. We apologize for your experience and we are doing our best to improve our process so this does not happen again. We look forward to your use of our Scan Gauge II and other future products.â€

Instead you ignore the customer. That will not get you far in the long run. I hope in this bad economy you are doing well and can get away with these quality and service issues. Luck does not last forever.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I would give them more than 24 hours though, say 72 hours.

We picked up my wife's 2010 III and could not stand the stupid constant beeping. The dealer did not want to change it for us and was planning on charging us if they decided to "bypass this safety feature". My wife has no interest in a SGII but I have them in my all cars, so I just pull one out of another car and hooked it up to her Prius with a spare cable. I only added to turn off gauge and in just a jiff we had the single beep! I put the SGII back where I got it. I understand that if the battery is disconnected or goes dead it will come back, but is otherwise "permanent". I left the BEE gauge programmed in just in case.

 

I have scangauge II version 3.15 and it seems to work fine with my 2010. Turned off the reverse beep and use it to monitor inverter coolant temp xgauge and ICE coolant temp. Interesting to see engine coolant temp climbed from what seems to be normal 185 to 206 while climbing hill at 70 mph out of the desert at 106 outside air temp.

 

These are the ICE coolant temperature specifications thanks to Ken1784:

below 180F:blue zone: cold
180-203F:green zone: good and acceptable
203-208F:yellow zone: semi-overheat
above 208F:red zone: overheat

Thanks for the link tumbleweed. I'm trying to get a baseline so I'll know when the cooling degrades over time. I keep cars a long time and prefer to know what's going on rather than waiting for the idiot lights. It sounds like a brand new car is operating on the edge of the cooling capacity in very hot weather. Probably have to keep the bugs washed out of the radiator fins on a regular basis to stay ahead of it. Or stay out of the desert.

 

Is there a ScanGauge code that will change the auto off delay for the headlights? I'd like to set mine to 0 seconds, but don't really want to go to the dealership to have it changed.

 

^ Nope. Has to be set by the dealer using TechStream (CAN bus).

 

Thanks to the good work of Adrian and others on this thread, I installed and programmed my SGII for my new Gen III today. I also disabled backup beeping. So now I'm monitoring RPM, battery amps, cWT (coolant temp in C), and kW (engine power). The install and mounting of the SGII was not nearly as straightforward nor stealth as the Gen II installation. The Gen II had it in the box below the sound system. The Gen III has it on the steering column, in a makeshift box to: a) shade it from the sun, and, b) lift it up about an inch so it can be seen above the steering wheel. As can be seen in the pics, the black box is attached to the steering column by cable ties, the SGII is attached to the black box with velcro, and the tennis ball is attached to the carport with ...

 

Great step-by-step on post #168 but I have a question that you techie types might think is stupid but I'm a little lost on the SGII function and purpose. I now believe I understand how to turn off the reverse beeps and seat belt beeps like I want but I don't want to leave the SGII in my car. I'm planning to donate it to my husband's '97 4Runner since his doesn't have all the data that my Prius normally shows and quite frankly I don't care about all that monitoring as long as the car gets me where I need to go!

So...does the SGII have to stay hooked up in my Prius to keep these settings or can I do what I need to do and then disconnect and remove the gauge?

 

SGII does not need to remain connected for the Prius to keep those settings. If you household has only one, it will help save a lot more fuel in the other car.

In my household, both the '10 Prius and '97 Suby have their own SGIIs. An even older car doesn't because it is too old for this device.

 

You can disconnect the SGII immediately after running the command.

Normally the SGII is used to display changing values like temperature or engine speed. So the SGII keeps asking the same question, and displaying the latest reply. When you use it to change a parameter, you're sending the same command as a dealer sends with the Techstream service tool. Issuing the command once is all that is required.

I have tested it today and it works

 

I made another gauge based in this one:

07E2015B 0441055B0000 2808 00010001FF9B uCh (Usable Charge)

When it shows 0 the forced recharge is about to start, when it shows 100 you are at 80% "real" SOC

 

I added motoleon's to the spreadsheet. I have another way to read the actual SoC from my car (that I know is correct) so I will be able to check the math on the new single-frame XGAUGE.

This is pretty neat indeed!
