OK so this was the first car I have EVER purchased. Also I am female and I am well aware that we tend to get destroyed when it comes to purchasing vehicles and negotiating. I ordered this car and they would not budge on the dealer fees whatsoever (even though I could prove from the DMV website that the actual costs were less). They did however come down on the purchase price $500 which I thought was great, but I am sure others could do better. Keep in mind its a 2010 and it is used with 10k miles on it. Did I get ripped off?

Car: 2010 Prius IV - Black
    Options: Solar Roof/Nav package
    Listed price: $22,000 (-$500 I negotiated) = 21,500
    Shipping fees: $700
    Dealer fees: $425
    Title fee: $75
    Taxes: $2145
    Total Paid: $24,845

This is total came out over blue book, which somewhat worried me because I do auto loans for a living and 90% of the vehicles I do loans for come out grand total under blue book (in this economy). My question is: Is the Prius so popular right now (Jan 2011) that it is common to sell over blue book or did I just get ripped a new one by the dealer?

    Thanks guys :)

You got beat on dealer fees.
Remember: Toyota car salesman are too proud of their product and they are out to make money. You gave in too soon. If you had walked away, they might have come down.
On the other hand, they do not display a lot a wiggle room on the Pius II.

Any dealer that overstates state DMV fees & taxes is the poster child for "sleazy". That's the time to get up & walk because you know you're getting screwed. The BS dealer fees are just pure profit. If you believe they are too high then make your cusomer satisfaction survey reflect your displeasure.

Your dealer fee looks similar to the dealership where my wife works. Her dealership will not negotiate on dealer fees, period.

That is an Awesome deal!!! The stealership in my area was trying to sell me a 2010 Prius III w/nav with 20k miles for $22,000 so I would be happy to pay more with all the options you got. Good Job!!! I'm a male and I can't even do that good.

Well I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I bought it from a Volkswagon dealer. They originally had it listed as a base model with a sun roof and I was like hmm.... base model with solar package?! So I went to check it out and discovered that it was an IV package with lots of extras. I am sure if it was at a Toyota Dealer it would have been lots more :)

I think you did fantastic for a IV with solar.
The only thing that gives me pause is the delivery shipping). I've never bought a used vehicle from a dealer - is it normal for used lots to charge a delivery (shipping) fee???

While I am certain each state has different fees and charges permitted with dealer sales, such as doc fees and taxes etc, let's get to the gist of the question - the purchase of the car at $21,500 IS a great buy. A new 2011 invoices for about $30K so that in itself was a nice deal. As far as the fees go, I never heard of shipping fees for a preowned car but did they have to bring the car in from a different state far away?

    I agree with Bisco.
And, one thing? In my state, CA, if there are fees charged - meaning doc fee is $55, then it's charged on all cars, period. It's not permitted by DMV to be changed or negotiated. Other states may also do this for the same reason. That said, even the 21,500 + that possible junk fee of 700 = 22,200 and that is STILL a helluva deal for a used IV with sunroof. :)
