I just reviewed around 20 local classifieds for Priuses and a 2010 Prius with 20k miles is going for about $20k. New they are 10-12% newer and full factory powertrain left (plus 2011 out now). Resale on these seems pretty strong after a year.

It's rare for a consumer to pay dealer asking price, normally price is discounted more.

Can someone tell me if this is a fair price for a 2010 Prius III with Navigation has 20K miles on it and the dealer is calling this a certified vehicle. $21,500 OTD tax & lic included?

I paid $24k in Chicago for my 2010 Barcelona Red Prius V with 12k miles on it.

Based on the condition "Basically NEW " with only a few minor small road chips on the front and the navigation home address "a Church" and past 50 trips in the gps memory we concluded it was owned by a priest who purchased it in May 2010 and took a long trip to Arizona, California, Washington and back to Illinois sometimes late summer/fall then traded it in at a Mazda dealership.

What is your tax rate? Certification costs something like $500 for what it's worth.

There was probably at least $24K of holly water used to wash and detail your car and a possible exorcism may mean you can forgo buying any additional insurance. Now, the story would be, somewhat, different if the previous owner had been a Liability Attorney.

I hope people wont pay that much.

My 2010 II has 34k on it. From what i gather it would sell for around 16 grand. So that would save someone around 6 grand. Why not buy used.

I paid $19.5K for my used 21010 Prius III (no packages) with 5,500 miles. I feel like I got an excellent deal and an excellent car. Mine was a Toyota Certified Used Car used by the dealership. I specifically wanted a dealer demo because my experience says the dealer's driver fixes the problems, squeaks, rattles, etc. before I get it. And this was the case for my Prius which after 20,000 miles is still tight, quiet and without problems. I think the dealer demo to 1 year old used car is just the best deal available. I still received the remainder of Toyota's warranty. No complaints here.

You raise a good point about the dealers putting their demos on their best behaviour by getting rid of all the squeaks and rattles. I just paid 23.5K for a 2010 Prius IV with everything but the solar sunroof with 12K miles and 2 years left on the warranty (plus they threw in the Ver 10 Nav disk at no charge). The test drive was very quiet and very smooth and there was nothing about this vehicle that gave any hint that it was a used Certified Loaner/Demo. We pick it up tomorrow and I look forward to having the 2010 Blizzard Pearl IV parked next to the 2010 Winter Grey V/ATP. Now that's a garage full of Priuses!:cheer2:

Don't be so sure that the dealer got rid of the squeaks and rattles. The certified loaner/demo could have just not developed any squeaks/rattles, just like many posters' Prius that they bought new.

That's not true about the rattles and squeaks.

I bought mine CPO from the dealer and the first thing I noticed on my drive home was a rattle. :D

My used purchase was a 2010 V with 2800 miles. I had been watching Manheim Auctions when I noticed a Gold repo with navigation in AZ. My finally bid of 24,000 was enough. With 300 to the dealer for purchasing, 500 to ship it and Texas taxes were then paid.

The purchase was approximately 5 weeks ago, her beauty continues to shine for me.

I wanted a Prius with a Nav and Solar roof option. All the dealers within a 300 mile radius of the Twin Cities wanted around 28k and would negotiate down to 26-27. This was just a hair out of my price range so I found a 2010 Black IV with the solar package for $21,500 with 15,000 miles on it from a Volkswagon dealer and I am very glad I did. I think if you want a base model you might as well get it off the show room floor, but those options REALLY come down in price once the vehicle is used.

Cheekies, I got the 2 prius III with nav and solar back in May and walked out door for under 27K. Had a rebate at the time and negotiated. Was able to sell my 2002 Sable for a decent price so i could justify the car with my wife (who hates it).....

Looked for used but felt the same way about justifying the value.

By the way, some advantage of certified vehicle since it usually extended the warranty for the "new driver" .

In Jan I purchased a used 2010 IV with solar and nav . found it on a Honda lot traded with 7600 miles, previous owners traded it and a Volvo suv (two payments for one).
cost me 20,000 even and split the cost of a window tint with dealer.
