Much to my dismay, I can attest that the feature is still alive in the 2010. Why it's there in the first place, completely baffles me.

Does this work on a 2010? I'd LOVE to turn it off (just back up beep, I'm fine with seatbelt.)

No, but can be turned off by the dealer.

Re: How to eliminate Reverse Beep & Seatbelt Beep

I called the service dept. of my dealer yesterday and he told me they never heard of anyone turning off the reverse beep and he stated. "I don't know if you can turn it off because it acts as a warning to people because it's a hybrid, it can be pretty quiet." I informed him that it's there solely to irritate the driver and any passengers.
Then he put me on hold so he could talk to his supervisor, then he said if they spent more than an hour trying to figure it out, they'll probably have to charge me and also I'll have to schedule a time to bring it in....
Does anyone have any details about how the dealer is supposed to change this setting, so I can come armed with information?
What's really strange is that I was informed that this particular dealership sells 400+ cars a month and I find it very surprising that I'm the first to inquire about this, considering how many times it's mentioned in the manual....

It's because of stuff like this I dread going to the dealer... Too many are just plain uninformed.

Stuff like the reverse beep should really have been designed to be changed by the user somehow... It's not a required thing by the government so allow us the choice without forcing us to the dealer when totally unnecessary...

Worked "98%" for me, is that typical ...

The instructions originally posted and reproduced above (thank you, zencat) worked "98%" for me.

I'm still getting a few driver side seatbelt beeps when the car is first powered on. Is that typical? The reverse and passenger side beeps are off and the driver side seatbelt warning is off after the initial beeps.

Do I need to do something extra or differently or is that the best that can be achieved?

(In practice, I don't actually usually notice those initial beeps. I noticed them after I initially followed the procedure, then started to think my Prius had "caught on" to my annoyance at the initial beeps and turned them off. However, paying attention when I powered on the car [as opposed to trying to remember if the beeps happened after driving for a while], revealed that the initial beeps were still happening.)

Thank you for any additional info!

Danny, I can't bring up the article, is it still available?

    Thanks, Pete

The dealer can turn off the beeps, if you own a OBD-II scanner you may be able to turn off the beeps.

When I shif to 'reverse' and then back to 'park', do I have to push the brake? Do I have to hear the 'beep'? I am not able to make it work.
Finally is it possible to disable the touch screen beep?
    Thanks!

I know I'm really late to the party and I still have to comment. Bill, you ROCK! Thanks for this 411. My purse/backpack/bag is so heavy that when I put it in the passenger seat, the car assumes it is a 'passenger'. It may take 10 minutes or more but eventually it assaults my senses.

Thanks. This was pretty easy to do - except that the first 5 trys or so I was shifting into "B" instead of "R", which failed to work for me for obvious reasons.

I toggled the seatbelt to b-off, but it still beeps 4 times on power up (same as before?). Oh well, could be worse.

The above procedure submitted by Bill M. was perfectly described; however, it did not work for my 2011 Prius II. Tried it 5 times with no success. Is this procedure for older models only? I would really like to stop that backup beeping. Thank you.

I know that in the North American Prius, Gen II (2004 to 2009) is a user setting, but Gen III (2010 +) is a dealer setting.
