2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

We bought our P3 on Dec 29 with 9 miles on the odometer. After over 3000 miles and 7 fill-ups we are averaging 47.3mpg calculated. On this last tank we got off to a great start with 55.3mpg (on the display) at the 250 mile point, but really cold and wet weather knocked us down to 49.9 calculated (52.3 on the display). Still, that was our best tank yet. We're sure to top 50 when warmer weather gets here, if the a/c doesn't kill us. BTW, we limit speed to 60mph on rural highways and 65mph on interstates, and lots of hills here in East Texas.

 

I drive 90% plus highway mileage on the NY Thruway. I set my cruise control at 73 most of the time, but I will lower it to 71 going uphill. I am averaging 45.5 mpg after 6500 miles.

 

Do you ever check your mpg when traveling over 70 mph on interstates or do you never exceed 65mph?

Still battling the bitter cold up here, just had my worst calculated tank yet (36.x). Sub zero temps, snow tires, snow and ice, lots of idling and warming up (necessary).

Near 40mpg is fantastic frankly, my 4runner got low teens in these conditions.

Looking forward to spring (for a lot of reasons!)

 

Just about to finish my first full tank with the snow tires. The rims are also non-Toyota. They felt heavier than the stock wheels when I was mounting them so was expecting a hit on the MPG. The MPG was very slow to rise at the beginning, but I am now at 48+ MPG with about 3 bars left on the gas tank. This is with a rough 50/50 local/hwy mix. I am relatively pleased given the extra confidence I have in the snow.

Welcome and congrats on the new car. Your first tank number should be disregarded as the dealer will leave the cars running and cycling between test drives. Also test drivers will tend to speed and brake aggressively to test acceleration. When you become a more proficient hybrid owner, you should see MPG between 50-60 Make sure you re-set the trip counter at your next fill up

Just hit 1K miles on my 2010 Prius. I was surprised how much the cold weather in the midwest has impacted my MPG.

In the city with lots of stop/go (cold temps below freezing) - 36 MPG
Highway (cold temps) - 50 MPG

With the warmer weather this weekend and employing some hypermiling tips, I was able to average 65MPG over an 80 mile mostly Hwy trip.

 

I followed up my worst tank with my best yet! 42.7

Amazing what a few days of 35 degree weather (vs. weeks of 15 degree weather) can do. Looking forward to spring!

Pretty much the same with me. Near the end of the dealers tank, the MPG crawled up to 39. Must be some kind of calculation error. But with the 2nd tank, I reset and i'm hitting 55mpg with "hybrid" driving techniques and in this blistering cold. All in Eco.

I don't think you can have Power mode pop-up automatically. Just press the button. It's much cooler.

I just got my 2011 (2010 model) in Malaysia on 11th of Feb and still waiting for my first tank. On the meter it is saying 20km per litre which translate to 50 US gal and 57 Imp Gal.

I expect this to improve now that I found some trips how to drive it more efficiently. So far I have been driving like a diesel. Am expecting more and more Prius in Malaysia since the govt has removed all taxes with Hybrids.

 

Getting 54 MPG in Atlanta. 2010 type II with Cooper GFE (lrr) tires. My 2007 Prius got 47 MPG with less fuel efficient tires.

 

I see alot less people are posting their MPG during winter. Must be too depressing.

My 55 dropped to 52 after 300 miles. Probably going to drop more as the cold moves back again.

 

26th tank 48.0MPG (calculated). 51.3MPG (Indicated)
Cold temps -5 to 70F. 100% ECO Mode. A few mild days. No ethanol. Cheated with engine block heater in the morning. Lower grill blocked.

A few mild 60-70F days boosted the average. Cold weather returns next week.

I've had my 2010 since June '09 and am getting an average of 51.03 mpg overall (actual miles / actual gallons). Have noticed that my "indicated" mpg (based on the trip odometer) is about 6% higher than actual.

Worst tank: 45.6 mpg (January)
Best tank: 55.31 mpg (May)

Best excursion: 173.1 miles; 66.7 mpg (indicated)

 

I purchased a 2010 Prius IV in August 2010 and have calculated MPG for every fill-up. Typically I drive 20 miles each way to the college where I teach with occasional trips over 100 miles each way.

I have driven 7119 miles,

Indicated MPG has averaged 48.94 Mpg and actual miles / gallon is 45.28.
In Sept indicated was 55.1 MPG and actual was 51.6.
In Jan - Feb, Indicated was 44.7 and actual was 41.4

 

Jan - Feb MPG has averaged 49.5 here in northern Florida. I'm expecting it go back up to over 55 easy next month as the weather gets really warm.

 

I have a 3rd generation Prius II that I got in January 2011. I drive 90 miles a day and live in the country, so there is no city driving for me. 95% of my driving is at 50-65 mpg. I baby the heck out of my Prius to get the best possible mpg. I check my tire pressure weekly, I drive no more than 65 mph on the interstate, I coast to stops and going downhill, monitor the fuel economy gauges, etc. While running on regular unleaded which in Missouri includes a minimum of 10% ethanol, I am averaging 45 mpg. Last tank of fuel I ran premium with no ethanol added and again babied my Prius for maximum fuel efficiency and got my best yet of 48.1 mpg. I guess the only other p[otential effect is winter driving with the colder temperatures. Can't wait for spring to get here and see if my fuel economy will improve or not. Quite frankly, I don't see how anyone gets 50 mpg or better, especially the drivers who are doing 70-80 mph.

Anyone have any suggestions?

 

ALL the gas in my area is 10% Ethanol now.

 

Why is everyone getting so much? I live in Naperville. Have not yet bought a tank so I can't calculate.
