I apologize for what SWMBO says must be the dumbest mod ever... has anyone removed the PRIUS and HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE badges from the rear hatch garnish of their GEN III? I've seen several posts on the GEN II: appears to be no problem... hair dryer, dental floss, applied with ample doses of due caution and patience... but I've not seen anyone who's actually done it on a GEN III. Specifically, anyone know of any alignment pins or other hidden problems?
Whoops, never mind... yuk! http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...ed-my-2010-prius-today-look-what-i-found.html
Mainemanx, what color is your car? If it is white and you want to do something sick to your badges, I suggest blacking it out with plastidip.
I wasn't on the forum when i did that mod, and I removed them and realized they all had holes underneath them. So i took them all off sanded them down and sprayed them with matte black can, got some 3m emblem adhesive, and threw them back on....let me see if i have a picture of it
In response to SWMBO opining this must be the "Dumbest Mod Ever," Teakwood commented: I considered responding that Teakwood's "too young to understand," that in the 50s some of us "invested" untold hours with the acetylene torch and lead bars, shaving, bull-nosing, etc... but then I noticed Teakwood's not much "younger" than the OP... Needless-to-say, these differences in opinion are nothing new, but for me, badges, emblems, and similar embellishments are simply distractions... and as far as dear wife is concerned, I "learned" in the 11th grade that "they" might tolerate, but were largely unimpressed with what boys did to their cars... Back on topic, I recall having used radio chassis knock-out plugs, with a little matching touch-up paint: 70s and 80s Hondas and VWs. Any and all suggestions welcomed
BocaChaser, your black-on-black treatment is far better than the original IMHO... may be an optimal solution for me. Also, your interior treatment, etc. are equally impressive! P.S. BocaChaser... in pursuit of mouths?
It's Blizzard Pearl... blacked-out, either glossy or flat would certainly be dramatic... equal treatment for the front fender HYBRID badges....
There's a great thread on how to use Plasti Dip here. You don't even need to take off the badges. DIY - Matte Black Emblems - Plastidip, no emblem removal required! - Club Lexus Forums It will look fantastic on your BP. I plan to pastidip my dark gray car when the weather improves.
That link answers my question. I was wondering if it was washable. Wouldn't want to spend all that effort putting on the plastidip to have it wash off.
