Off topic slightly, but the last week I lost 120V at my back patio ( exterior outlet ) so, I went to the CB box and checked every CB, all OK, none tripped, all voltages present on the right side of the CB box. So, then I went to each Bathroom.... NO voltage at all three BR outlets! So I went on line and queried search. A site informed me that sometimes the outlets need to be replaced. Went to Hardware store and bought three outlets. I replaced two of them and then went back to the downstairs BR. The HOT wire was quite black and the oulet only measured 90 Volts. So I cut an inch off and stripped the insulation making sure both wires were nice shiny copper color. Also put a new outlet in. Voltage restored to 120VAC. It seems all the outlets are tied in Series and this is why I had no power on the Patio. All outlets OK now. So, BROOKSIDE How much money did I save ??????? :D:D:D

Agreed. For routine service I never got out of the BMW dealer for less than $1,000. My best friend is selling his mint X5 because he's sold his business and can no longer afford the maintenance.

BMW dealers are very expensive. Luckily they pay for all the maintenance for 4 years 50,000 miles now...

As for your friend selling his X5 because he can no longer afford the maintenance. You know...he doesn't have to use the dealer. With an independent shop routine maintenance would be on par with any other car.

I'm out of town on vacation, but regardless I wouldn't be responding to the baiting from the clearly bitter members here who can't imagine this happening.

Just to put it in perspective - the chevy cruze gets almost double my current economy. How would that make you feel?

    Adios

Actually, if you're so hell bent against a Prius the 2012 Elantra seems to be a far better option than the Cruze/Fiesta both of which require special packages to achieve decent mileage. Still 10 mpg lower than Prius, but may be worth a shot.

In Consumer Reports testing, here's what they got on the Cruze in mpg.
    2011 LS sedan, 1.8-liter Four, 6-speed automatic: 26 overall, 17 city/36 highway, 34 on 150 mile trip
    2011 1LT sedan, 1.4-liter Four turbo, 6-speed automatic: 26 overall, 17 city/36 highway, 35 on 150 mile trip

One of CR's lows about the Cruze was fuel economy. They stated "Both [engines] get 26 mpg overall, with the 6-speed automatic, which isn't stellar for a car in this class."

    2nd gen Prius got what's at ConsumerReports.org - Most fuel-efficient cars.

It'll be funny if the new dealer diagnoses the "good" battery as failing a load test...

That or something like the a combination of a "bad alignment", wrong weight engine oil, clogged engine air filter, stuck rear brakes, and stuck open thermostat.

I think its bullshit that you won't tell us what voltage value your "good" battery is reading. Seriously, if you think your battery has nothing to do with it and your just trying to get us to "skip" the step of checking it, your wrong. When the car detects a low battery, it'll spend more energy trying to charge it up.

Hell, perhaps your battery ground connection is rusted from all the water in there so its not providing a clean connection. Have you checked this too?

I told you the voltage was within spec. U know the spec - it's been discussed to death on this site. What's "bullshit" is that people keep asking even though they've been given the answer.

Well, maybe it's because when people ask for advice and then tell everyone they know everything already, those being asked wonder why they are being asked in the first place. I'm not going to go back and check your wording as to whether you said it was in spec... I do remember you saying it was not the problem etc... maybe you're unaware of all the people here who have had dealers tell them the 12v battery was good when it wasn't. That is why people asked what the voltage was, not is the battery ok. But you just keep ranting away and attack those trying to help.. although I don't see how this is working for you...

    Agreed.

It would also help if you had a CAN sniffer because the pedal travel is logged over the network.

ScanGauge would probably help here too as one of the XGauges possible is "gps" (gas pedal position sensor) which has values from 0 to 100%. There's also the bps (brake pedal position sensor) w/the same range.

Agreed - I never thought I'd ever add someone to an ignore list on PC, but he made the first slot.

He was asked multiple times to do things to get info and he refused. He is either a troll or very very rude to people trying to help him.

Quite frankly I can't believe I keep looking at this thread but it is sort of like watching a wreck during a NASCAR race.

ScanGauge is a CAN sniffer, albeit a very limited one.

I can get all values all the time with my CAN personal sniffer, Im not stuck with only X slots and only one data point per message ID mask...
