I am looking at picking up a set of these in 17" with the tires (205/45/17) that I linked to. Elbrus I05 Silver Machined w/ Ice Coating (less than 5 posts, won't let me post links...) Continental ExtremeContact DWS (see above...) Does anyone know if there will be any fitment issues on an 07? I am not concerned about TPMS (I'll use electrical tape if I have to) or mileage drops, just need to know if they will be able to just be bolted right on or if I will need spacers/some other mods. Concerning TPMS, anyone happen to know if my stock TPMS units will be usable on these wheels? They have the capability for TPMS but my dealer says they'd have to see the new tires/rims before they can say one way or the other if they'll fit. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Here ya go: Elbrus I05 Silver Machined w/Ice Coating The bolt pattern is 5x100, offset is +38 so yes it will definitely fit. I don't know much about the TPMS, but I don't believe you can just swap it with most new wheels.
I've also been trying to figure out if it's "wiser" to just buy new ones. Tirerack will sell them, install, mount, and balance for $288. I would then have to pay for programming and alignment at the dealership (which will be another $150). My dealership would charge me $250ish for balance, mounting, alignment, and TPMS swap (if they can be done). However, if the TPMS cannot be done and I have to buy new ones at the dealership, they are around $120 each... Maybe contacting the manufacturer of the tires or wheels would shed some light?
FWIW, we've been driving around on snows without TPMS, almost since purchase last November, and it is a non-issue, don't even notice the dash warning anymore.
Tire Rack's deal seems to be the best. Although see if you can get a free alignment from them. Free alignments are common among tires places. Programming from the dealership is critical. Yup, this stuff costs $$$. You want it done right, but it sounds like you are.
Just spoke to a local tire place and the guy indicated that he's never seen a stock TPMS unit not fit into a new wheel (I guess they are uniform in size?). Makes me feel a little more secure in winging it with my existing ones rather than purchasing new ones that may or may not work with the Prius.
I just dont worry about the light on the dash. Most prius owners pay very close attention to their tire pressures. Just save yourself the money and trouble. But constantly check your pressure hahah.
Yeah, I think I am going to do it and if the TPMS work, great, if not, I'll be picking up some electrical tape.
Don't gum up your dash plate: you will not notice it after a week or two. TPMS is an expensive, complex solution to a non-problem.
