Many thanks to Sphyrna for the detailed instructions. I tried for about an hour today to follow pages 69-70 to change the auto lock and unlock settings, meeting with no success. I then did a search and found this thread, followed the steps at post 8, and had the settings changed in less than 5 minutes. Toyota really should have made the manual clearer on this item.

I didn't know I can change the door lock mode like this but I used the mongoose cable with techstream to do the setup for my
    car.

I have searched the Gen II section with no luck. Does anyone know if these door lock options can be set on the 2008 Gen II models? I tried several times and it didn't work.

Thanks for the help... It's my first Prius and I love it...

Thanks, your instructions really helped. But I found a couple other hints that might be useful for those, who like me, still could not get this to work.

    (1) Take a deep breath. Even though the manual says you've only got 20 seconds to do the job, give the car time to start. One good hint, don't do ANYTHING until you see the clock tick once. Only then press the P or slide into N.

    (2) Although you can do the P changes while the car is in "ON" mode, you can only do the N changes when the car is in "READY" mode. Make sure that you see P or N selected on the dash before you fiddle with the driver side lock.

I hope those two hints will help some others, like me, who may be rushing things a bit and getting frustrated. Good luck!

Unfortunately, the automatic door locking settings are not available for the ZVW30 2010 Prius, European version (maybe due to EU regulations). The EU manual simply skips pages 68 and 69 of the US owner's manual as well as the related customizations at page 581 (the documented programming preferences allowed to authorized Toyota dealers). Besides, according to my dealer, they are not even available when trying to find them through the Toyota diagnostic device (the unit to be connected to the OBDII interface).
Is there a way to overcome this constraint and have them enabled on the EU version?

How about *totally disabling* autoPark-related locking?

Does anyone know a way to completely disable auto-locking? That is, I don't want shifting into or out of Park, or reaching a certain speed, to have any effect whatsoever on the door locks. Or is that degree of simplicity obtainable in such a sophisticated vehicle?!

(Sorry about post title--new to this board.)

Thanks to the instructions giver here I was able to program my locking preferances where I wanted them. Now, if only I can get the dealer to take away my constant reverse beep without having to pay $49. I will be discusing this with the service manager this coming week. Thanks guys & gals for all the great information.

Help! After adjusting the door locks to lock with speed, two days later they are back to locking when I put the car in gear. What the heck did I do wrong.

I have tried several times to not have all the doors unlock when I put it in park and cannot get it to work. Maybe I can get the dealer to do it. I give up.

Hi all. I'm from Malaysia & I just got my Prius 2 days ago. Happy with everything but was surprised that the doors didn't automatically lock after driving off. I found this thread & didn't know that some features are actually customizable as there was nothing about customization by owner in my manual. Anyway, I would like to try out the steps highlighted here.
However, I have some (stupid?) questions.
    - What do you guys means by "press the lock button for 5 seconds"?
    - Which lock button is that? The one on the door?
    - Press for 5 seconds means "press the lock button to lock it for 5 seconds then press the unlock button after 5 seconds"?

Re: How about *totally disabling* autoPark-related locking?

As previously mentioned the modes are toggled on & off. So you can do as I just tried (in an effort not to steer you wrong) Totally disabling the the auto lock functions depends on the mode you are currently in. For example - if your doors lock the moment you put the car into gear then you would do the following to toggle that feature off:

Press & hold the brake, turn on your car, wait just a moment, now press and hold the lock button for 5 seconds. Once you release the button you will hear it engage and disengage. Now the auto lock function is disabled. You will have toggled the feature off.

If they lock at speed then you would do the same as above except with the car in Neutral instead of being in Park. You will have toggled this feature off.

The same applies to the auto unlock, etc.

Clear as mud eh? Once you do it then it makes perfect sense.

I got mine just the way I wanted it. Locks at speed. Unlocks at Park.

I tried the 4d step and it worked! Thanks, however step 5 didn't happen, so I repeated step 4d 4 or 5 times, gave up, got our of the car, locked it, then to check I unlocked it and it WORKED! Thanks again

Re: How about *totally disabling* autoPark-related locking?

It can be done. I did it on my car. I wanted to clear out the current settings on my car before I programmed it like I wanted to be sure that the programming took. If your car is still locking upon shifting out of park, you just need to turn on your car to ready mode, stay in park, and hold the driver's side power lock button for 5 seconds.

And some further clarification from a moron who finally got this to work. I tried this programming stuff for a while, and I just couldn't get it. What was I doing wrong? I was working under the assumption that I was supposed to hold Park/Neutral WHILE holding the lock/unlock button on the driver's door. Don't do this! If your function mentions Neutral, shift the car to neutral, and then commence with the lock or unlock for 5 seconds. And if your desired function mentions Park, you simply do nothing. You just turn the car on, and press lock/unlock for 5 seconds.

It worked perfectly for me. My car was locking upon moving out of Park. I wanted to shut that down, so I did step 4a on Sphyrna's list. Then, I wanted it to lock at speed and unlock all doors when I open the driver's door, so I did steps 4c and 4d. Wow, after 6 months, I finally have locks that work to my liking!!

Ric, when we mention pressing the lock button for 5 seconds, you press and hold the power door lock button on the driver's door for 5 seconds. If the programming item mentions the unlock button, you press and hold the power unlock button on the driver's door for 5 seconds. A poster from the EU mentioned that these features were not available on his Pruis; perhaps the same is true for the Malaysian Prius?

Thanks a lot for your reply. I tried the steps many times & it just doesn't work. I guess it doesn't work for the Malaysian Prius like you said. Sad...:(
